The other day i was watching hockey and I noticed a small,half-circl shaped discoloration in the upper right hand corner of my set.Does anyone know what the hell this is or how it could have gotten there? Its my bedroom set and not a very expensive set but its only 2 months old and this just popped up outta nowhere...I dont have a speaker near it or nothing so I'm baffled. The half circle is about 3-4 inches wide and 3-4 inches long.....it can only be seen when that part of the screen is pure white or very lightly colored....when there is color or black there you cant see it.

It is not unusual to have some variance on a blank white screen. If possible, put up a white field and adjust the white level downward to see if it changes. If so, make the adjustments for overall PQ properly and if the anomoly is present then, you'll just have to get over it I'm afraid.
The other thing that it could be is image retention from a station or other logo. The upper corner would be a strange place for this, but anything is possible.

I also have a similar discoloration on the bottom left corner of my screen. Its a sort of yellow hue. I bought it "open item" at Best Buy, and I got it for like 50% off, so I just deal with it. I don't really notice it unless the screen is totally white, or watching black and white movies. Watching Sin City on the TV at home was amazing, watching it on my tv here at my place is slightly annoying...

Yea this sounds exactly like what I"m talking about...it sorts a yellowish hue. I did watch Sin City and didnt really notice it...it seems to worse on some shows thatn others. I suppose it is just some sorta colr variation but what really bugs me is that it wasnt there like last week. I'm not sure exactly how long it has been there but I noticed the other night watchng hockey. I have watched plenty of hockey games before and didnt notice it but last nite there it was. I can definitly live with it like you said though...its not real obvious. My friend sat here and watched the whole game with me and didnt once notice it till I mentioned it and even then it took him a second. Well thanks for input...what should I have my settings on? The preset pictures are wierd...movie= very dark, sports=very bright, and standard seems ok but is there a better settings I can adjust myself...I played with the settings some and just couldnt get anything goin that looked good, these CRT's are a little harder for me to gauge, any ideas? Its an Insignia 30" CRTHD

I totally agree with what d6500k said. In one trip to a particular Best Buy, they had a source that put up a white background on all their CRTs. ALL of them had this problem. Depending on the brand though the discolorations will be at different corners or spots. The discoloration tends to make the white a slightly off-white or grayish color. In extremely bad cases it will turn nasty yellow or weird blue (the LG did this). That's just how these CRTs are and you just have to live with it. It's not terribly obvious when viewing regular media, I think.
I hear the Sonys have settings in the Service Menus to correct localized discolorations. I don't know if that is true or not, and even if it is, it still probably can't be gotten perfect I suspect. The Sonys seem to have more comprehensive Service Menus that other brands from what other say.
godson that problem was always there and you just didn't notice before. :) Happens to everyone, when they notice a new "feature" of their TVs.

LOL...thats what a few fellow HD heads have told. Apperently it happens to a bit of sets..Thank you guys for comforting me in my time of despair ;) I'm feeling much better now. I doubt this set has many if any at all service menus....like I said its an Insignia brand that otherwise has been great.
