I purchased my sony 960 august 2004, i am over the road truck driver so i watch it about 7, to maybe 10 days a month if i am lucky. while watching the tv it went off and never came back on. i called sony and they had a local repair man call up and set up a time to come to my house. Very professional outfit.
He diagnosed the problem as a bad board. he said if the tv wasnt under warrenty it would have been around $500.00 to fix. with the in house service call. The thought of taking it to be fixed is more of a nightmare than somthing i would consider doing(to avoid in home service call), as the weight is horrific.
so far i am waiting for the board to be mailed up from califronia (i in oregon). as of course the first one that was mailed was the wrong board. but no big deal, i am not home to watch it most of the time.
i am kind of jellous of the people who bought the same tv with 5 year warrenties included in the price. i kind of thought i could go 5 or 6 years without a problem which has been the case with my toshiba's. the back of the sony says it was made in Mexico.
my advice is go with the xbr, as that 2 year warrenty might be worth more than u think.
It is a great set.
My question. While my tv is still under the original warrenty is there a place i can extend my warrenty, that is not a fly by night outfit? the store i purchased it from says no.
thanks for your help
