I can't imagine Directv being better than Dish Network now.
Directv has a great public relations department-great commercials..but Dish has more HD and costs Less.
Consumers Reports said that Dish and Direct are equal in picture quality and service.

I was under the impression direct tv was a better deal 155 channels plus locals for $41.99
dish is 120 channels for $44.00 and add $5.00 for locals
however I could be wrong I read it a while ago.

Right now dish has more content than directv, but by next year direct will have 150+ channels. All directv customers ONLY need 1 dish to receive ota locals in major markets. We can receive ota with an antenna which means the signal isn't compressed. My mom had dn and their customer service sucks,go on over to the directv boards and read up.

How does the saying go? "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush"? For more HD right now, it's Dish. Next year, it could very well be DirecTV. But I doubt you're going to see "150+ channels", assuming the 150+ channels are supposed to be HD channels. Those 150+ channels are going to be made up of HD LIL's, locals in different markets, so when DirecTV says that they are going to provide 150+ HD channels next year, read between the lines.
DirecTV does have the better deal with only the one dish on the roof. I will grant you that.

I do the same thing with my DISH receiver, so the advantage for DirecTV is.........

Yeah the customer service has gotten really bad at DISH. They farm out their customer service to India, so I can't really say I'm surprised.
Seeing as how most companies are doing that now, though, enjoy whatever decent customer service DirecTV has now, because I wouldn't be suprised if in the near future your calls are answered by Mahmoud instead of Mike. :D :D :D

Dish Network representative told me that they are trying to put everything onto one Dish.
I havea Dish 1000 which can carry everything I need.. including ALL MY HD channels ..plus HD local channels and my platimum package.
And Direcvtv talks the talk..but Dish Network STILL has more HD content than them.
Hey,I can say I'm going to give you a million HD channels in the future ..but Directv's talk is cheap.
B oth Dish Network and Directv are and have launched new satelites in the sky and they keep improving or seek to improve their channel line up.
Dish Network is still better than Directv..PERIOD ! :hithere:

Personally I could care Less about Football..I love watching movies.
But if you think Dish Network is'nt on top of things in regards to Football..think again. They are starting a HD channel with Football games..or they currently have one. Call Dish Network Technical and ask them about it.

Well I need to comment on that by stating I had Voom HD and the Voom Hd offerings in a word was hoover big time. Dishnet picked them up and after editiing them, plus DTV people do not rent equipment, and the sports is the big key here. I have also seen many reprorts of DTv having a musch better PQ than Dishnet. Dishnet is good for familys/older folks. DTV is for the rest of us, theres festivis!

On the other hand, I have seen many reports, on this forum and others, where people report that DirecTV has some of the worst PQ because they compress the hell out of their HD channels.
What it comes down to is whose comments you read, because let's be honest here; a DirecTV subscriber is not going to say "yeah, our PQ sucks". Conversely, a DISH person or a Comcast person is not going to say that about their service either. It's always going to be someone who subscribes to DirecTV saying that DISH's PQ is inferior, and vice versa.

Well my experience comes from using all three at some point or another.TW in Ohio is just horrible all the way around, they offerd me 1/2 price for 18 months to switch they go around to all the houses that have a dish and make that offer. When I stayed with my mom for 3+ months she had dish some channels where coming and going. We called dish and they recomend someone climb on the roof and check the dish since there weren't and obstructions. She said that was okay she was switchin to directv, they made no effort at all to keep her a customer. And personally from that old tv she got Directv had noticably better picture than dish.I'm elgible for a discount on dishnet but DirecTv is the way to go.

E* should at least give us all our regional sports nets and in HD too. Leave the all over everywhere sports packs to D*. Get out of that business! That can be their job. If E* is truly family friendly, they must give us our local teams! They are important to us!
I would also love to see WB, UPN and at least 1 major local PBS in HD and then E* will blow cable and D* away. Maybe later in the year now that WB and UPN will combine to form the new CW Network this coming fall. Then they have one less network to worry about.
My new 211 is working great. It was disappointing to see that quite a few new shows are still being done in 4:3 aspect ratio. It is like we are back in the mid 1960's waiting to see if our new shows will be in color.. lol At least the picture is very good. I am using an HDMI connection.

Directv will not do that to you! Threaten to leave and they boot you up to retention and make you a happy customer. they will go out of the way to fix it. not tell you to climb a roof!

I noticed the Same channels in HD on both my tv's that each use a 211 look different. One tv picture looks sharper than the other. They are using the same cables and are the same kind of tv's..so I'm puzzled why the pics aren't as good.

I have to disagree. The only reason that I left DirecTv and made the move to Dish is that DirecTv would not make any concessions to make me stay. They only offered to match Dish Network's offering after I had already made the jump to Dish.

When I was switching to E* for HD, I got transferred to the D* retention people... more like anal retention. Anyway, they didn't do anything on the price of HD equipment or programming and tried to tell me that very soon D* would be carrying several hundred channels of HD. Talk about a steaming pile of dung, several hundred channels spread across the continental United States, of which I might have received 10. Granted, Voom doesn't always carry what I would call compelling programming... but my move to E* has, overall, been a good one.

DTV did nothing to keep me as a customer when I switched, either. In fact, when I asked what they would do for an existing customer who wanted to switch to HD, I was told I'd have to shell out a lot of $$$. When I asked why I would want to do that when I could lease from E*, they could only come up with the comment that it would cost me more in the long run. I told them I'd much rather pay on a monthly basis than shell out a few hundred $$ at the time, having just done so for the TV. They gave up shortly after, other than to call twice after I switched.
It is interesting to note they're now switching to a lease system. Perhaps I wasn't the only one to switch for that reason. At the time, pre-HD, I thought their picture quality was pretty bad, and have been happy with E* in comparison.
I've also noticed that my HD looks a lot better than my brother's Comcast HD, and we both have the same brand LCD. Glad I went the route I did!

Unfortunatly, you did not get to the correct level of customer service.
If you had done so, you would still be with them.

In just a few years, 2012 I am pretty sure, non-HD will be a thing of the past alltogether.

So far I am happy with Dish. And as far as not speaking to the proper people at DirecTv is concerned, you're probably right. Even though I spoke to 3 different CSR's and told all three of them that I was planning to leave DirecTv, I didn't get elevated to customer retention until I made the call to actually cancel my service. But it all worked out better in the end as it seems that Dish is, at least for now, the leader in HD programming.
