Just ordered the 622 from Dish

I called up Dish Network this morning and ordered my VIP 622. After hearing rumors that the 622 wouldn't be available for another month, I wasn't sure if I'd be successful. I chose the option for tech support and got someone right away who was helpful and could speak English. (definitely not outsourced) However, she did try to offer me the $200 rebate by waiting until April even though I currently don't have HD. She checked on it and figured out that you have to currently own an HD DVR. Their first install date available was 2/11, which is ok since I need a Saturday installation.

She did mention that I'd have to keep a phone line connected all the time or I'd be charged something like $5 a month. Currently I only connect the phone line (with a really long cord) when I order pay per view. Guess I'll install a phone jack before the install.

The lease fee is $6/month for this model, and $5.98 for DVR as expected.

I forgot to ask if it comes with an HDMI cable. Does anyone know if it does?

I just got off the phone with DN and was told I could set up an appointment for install of the 622VIP next week. I asked them to confirm that I would be getting the 622 next week and not be told later that it would be delayed until after March. After putting me on hold for 20 minutes they came back to say that they cannot guarantee the 622, but I might be sent the 942 instead. I told them I didn't want the 942, but they said it all depended on what they had in their inventory at the time and there was no way of knowing. I told them I'd rather wait until they can guarantee the 622 and hung up.

Not to be a dark cloud, but are you sure they will be giving you the 622?

So you don't have HD yet but you are a DN subscriber?

I have a standard def 522 DVR which I'd like to upgrade to a HD DVR. Depending on which time I called I was told the "lease" upgrade would be a 942 for $250, $299, $399 or "not available for as an upgrade from a 522" + $6 or 10/mo. What was your deal? Local TWC HD DVR here is simply $18/mo (funny, every time I call, same price). I've been waiting to see what DISH finally came out with Feb 1 ...and today's the day.

Just based on mgregg99's experience, I am not jumping into this one. I want the 622, and nothing else. I'll wait a while until I know for a fact that is what they are shipping, and not a no-mpeg4 substitute, just to get a sale.
Also will check other forums (satelliteguys, dbstalk, etc. ) and see what's happening there.

I asked to order the 622 and was never told it may be some other model. And the rep did mention it's the new HD dual tuner DVR. So, it beter turn out to be that one.

I currently own a 508, so no HD yet. The upgrade to the 622 as part of the "dishing it up" program is $299. I think that offer applies to any existing customer regardless of your current receiver. I can also send in my current one to get a $25 credit. If you log into your account online, and go to the Upgrade your receiver section, it shows the two new HD receivers and the prices. (can't be ordered online, they refer you to call the 800 number or a local retailer) She also asked which of the new HD packages I wanted so once it's installed and activated it should be all ready to go.

After poking around some other forums, similar confusion appears to be in place. Most who have ordered 622's are told Feb 21 as the earliest install date. There was one given a Feb 13 date.
Something to bear in mind, I would not be surprised if some of you jumping in early get calls on delays. There is more here than availability of receivers, it's also availability of installers in different locales.
Of course, if you are only swapping receivers and doing your own install, that 'should be' quicker.

Amazing at how you get different stories each time you call and speak with a CSR. Just for giggles I called back and asked to have the new HD Gold package added to my account and have one of my 311 receivers changed to the new 622. This time, though, I talked with someone in Tech Support, not a CSR. They assured me that I would be getting the 622, not the 942 or anything else for that matter. I told her I wanted to believe her, but that I was skeptical. She gave me her name, direct extension and word that I would receive nothing other than the 622. I said that was fine, but if she was wrong I'd have her for lunch.

The only negative was that they cannot get out to do the install until the 21st of February. So much for watching the Olympics in HD. I'll be able to catch some of the action on my OTA, but I won't be able to record anything or catch the events on the other channels. Oh well.

I was also told this morning that my 500 dish would be okay, but after this last call I was told I need to have the 1000 dish installed at no additional charge. This was told to me by a supervisor after the tech gal passed me on to the supervisor at my request.

Not much I can do now except wait and see.

Here is another caution:

Once your order is accepted, your card is charged. Regardless of install date. Keep it within 30 days, you should be okay... ;)

However, she did try to offer me the $200 rebate by waiting until April even though I currently don't have HD. She checked on it and figured out that you have to currently own an HD DVR.

I called and the CSR, who was actually in tech support, told me of the $200 rebate if I waited until April 1 for the 622 receiver. I told him there was some confusion as to whether or not I received that rebate if I didn't have the 942 HD DVR receiver to trade in. He spoke with his manager and was told the $200 rebate applies to everyone. I asked him for his extension, so I could order through him, and he said he didn't have an extension. "Well what if another CSR tells me differently and claims I don't get the rebate, since I'm not trading in the 942?" He said he made the notes in my account for future reference.

I hope this is true. For less than a hundred bucks, I could potentially upgrade to the 622 receiver and get the Dish1000 installed. If that holds true, I'm very excited and more than happy to wait 'til April 1 for an extra $200 in my pocket. :p That would just about allow me to get that Harmony remote I've been wanting. :yippee:

I would try to double-check on this. From what the tech was reading back to me this morning on the terms of the rebate, it said it was available for "current HD DVR customers." Sounds like they weren't trained very well about the details of the rebate.

It's amazing.. simply amazing... the CSR's can generate more options than the CEO himself! :D

If I had a 921 or 942 I would be bummed out that folks that did not ante up the several hundred dollars a year or two ago for an HD DVR are getting the same rebate. I will believe it when I see it.
But more power to you. I hope when I call I get a 'special' deal like that. Maybe they will throw in a free cruise too!

This wouldn't be the first time they weren't well trained on something. Trust me, I'm skeptical too, but it doesn't hurt me to wait, even for just a slim chance at a couple of hundred in my pocket. If he did note it on my account, they'll honor it!

I've been down this road before, which is how we got two 811 receivers when they first came out, when they were only allowing 1 per household. Had to speak with one of the managers to get it done though, but they went by what was stated in the notes of the account.

On the positive side, they are not taking anything away. While I am skeptical about giving you more than what their promotion says.
Be good if they fax you a copy of the what they wrote down on the contract. 18 mos. is a long time, I hope everyone gets what they should and/or were promised.
I have never had a real problem with Dish, either when it came to phone calls (except being on hold), contracts, or service installs. But there's always a first time.

I called to get the new VIP211 since I have a 811. And the CSR said I could get a 622 today for $299. But he advised me that April 1st I could get it for $99 after an instant $200 rebate. I then told him he must be confused, because that was for owners of a HD DVR. He said it applied to all current customers. I then asked for him to make sure, so he put me on hold and spoke with his supervisor. He then come back and assured me I could get it for $99.

So I'll wait for April 1st, and hope that Atlanta HD Locals are out by then.

Very true man, I'm going to call in again before March 30th just to make sure, and make them make note of it. Should of done that this morning, but I was on the phone with them for 30+ minutes. And I was at work, so I was sort of in a hurry.

Yup, I received a call today to reschedule. They said they had a shipping issue with the 622s and had to reschedule for sometime after the 22nd. So, now I'm scheduled for Sat. the 25th so I don't have to take time off work. They're going to mail me the receiver and said if I receive it earlier than that date I can call to have them come out sooner. (He said they aren't going to be keeping any 622s in the installer's trucks, they're only going to be shipped out.)

Recently, purchased a Toshiba 56MX195 DLP and wanted to upgrade from my 510 DVR to a HDTV DVR. Just ordered the 622 for $299. The DN CSR never mentioned to me about a "rebate" on April 1, 2006. All she told me that I will get a credit of $25.00 when I return the 510 DVR. Also, the earliest installation date will be MARCH 02. Have I been ripped off...Of course, I would wait to save$$$. I did not find out about the rebate until I read this forum. is the rebate a rumor

You haven't been ripped off. You got what is agreed to...the rebate offer is for present DVR owners..so you didn't get ripped off. Maybe they just got a better than fair deal for some reason.

I know there's a lot of talk about "who's on first". I just spoke with a CSR also. I called the 800 Dish number and poked my way through to HD tech support. Got someone in the states who reasonably knew what he was talking about - new pricing, programming, possible dish change and how to wire into my house to meet my needs. He didn't know much about the April 1 promotion though (he was probably holding it tight). Bottom line, he did state that if you call in and get someone with language difficulties, just let the person know that you have questions for HD tech support and you will get to someone who you can understand.

Well, I went ahead and called myself. Maybe I've been lucky, but I usually order 'stuff' by hitting #3 and going through tech support.
If the CSR was off-shore, she was certainy proficient in her english. Definitely, it was not her 2nd language. That aside....
she was very courteous, and went back and verified everything she told me.
I have both an 811 and 510 to trade in. She said, if I order the 622 today, it will cost $299. But if I wait until April 1st I will get a $100 rebate.
So guess I'll call back in April, and hope the original offer is still good if the rebate is rubbish. Half way tempted to call again Monday and see of the offer has changed depending on who you talk with..starting to get sneaky feeling there is an inside memo for additional offers for long term customers, who use autopay, who have had continuous service since day one, etc. etc.... :o
