EchoStar, with 12 million subscribers, is the third biggest provider in the country behind DirecTV and Comcast.

This was posted on another thread. Just curious on why Direct has more subscribers then Dish.

A big reason that Dish won't catch up too fast is the Yes Network deal. NYC DMA people cannot see most Yankee games as Yes, like Lifetime wants more money than Charlie is willing to pay. DirecTV does in fact carry Yes.
Lucky for me I am a Mets fan and those games are available on FSN-NY and MSG which are both carried on Dish.

Not for long Yes616...the Mets will be on Sportsnet New York(SNY) this year. No more MSG or FSN. I've sent a couple of letters to Dish and I get the usual response that they will try to acquire the channel if it makes sense to all of its subscribers. As a Met Fan myself and a long and happy Dish subscriber, it will be hard to stay with Dish if they don't pick this channel up. Anybody have insider info...

Uh Oh.. Now this sounds serious. I better start writing letters to Dish now.

It is funny to see how everybody on this forum complains about Dish Network and their business practices. Yet, most still stay with the company. I am about to switch myself. I have been using the DirecTV service for about 3 years now and must say that the customer service is a lot better there. Why am I switching you might ask? Well just like most of you it is HD. Because DirecTV places the emphasis on sport, there are a lot less HD channels. I like sport, it took me long time to decide whether I want to see hockey games on OLN or have more channels in HD. So I am switching to Dish on Feb 1st, but I will not sign the 18 month contract. As soon as Direct TV catches up, I will most likely go back.

None of the "big three" in the area - DISH, DirecTV or Cablevision - have signed a deal yet with SNY.

Your right GRN..I spoke with a rep at SNY and they told me that Time Warner and Comcast were the only 2 providers at this time. She also said that they were in negotiations with both Dish and Direct...so keep your fingers crossed???
