Hey Rick:
When I ordered my new ViP 211, I went through all of this with the CSR on the phone. I imagine that I am all set up. I will be up late that night to see what happens at midnight here in the east and let you west folks know what I see here.
53 1/2 hours to go and counting.. lol
bashlin 01-29-2006, 06:14 PM CSR told me i can call at 12:01 eastern time and the promotion will be in effect..and beleive me i'm calling..can't help but think their is going to be a limited supply of the 211's for a while anyway..
Yes616 01-29-2006, 06:40 PM CSR already told me I will have channels turned on at 12:01 EST.. If they are not on by 12:02, I will be calling them so..
Do me a favor folks? Stay off their line at 12:02 AM EST and later.. Well, till the next day anyway.. I hate being on hold.. Thanks in advance..
:D
rickbbb 01-30-2006, 01:10 PM I wonder if I can call 9pm Westcoast time on January 31st or do i have to call midnight Feb.1st to have my new Platimum Package activated.
So far theres nothing about a new package or Packages advertised at Dish Network's website.
mgregg99 01-30-2006, 02:04 PM I just got off the phone with a CSR and was told that the 622 receiver won't be available until March 1st, but the 211 will be available on Feb 1. They also told me that the HD package was $9.99 per month and the VOOM package would be an additional $5.00. I was also told that since I'm already paying and receiving the local channels I would get the local HD channel signal with no additional charges.
Based on my account info I was told that there is a $100 fee for the 622 receiver, which includes installation. There would be a $5 monthly lease fee going forward. The only other option would be to purchase the 622 through a retailer, but they had no price quote. I was also told that the retailers may already have the 622 receivers, but they weren't supposed to be selling them until March 1.
They were not able to explain to me the advantage of getting the VOOM channels. Anyone out there have an opinion as to it's worth?
Don't know if any of what they told me will be true, but that's what I was told.
Thanks!
Mike

Hey Mike:
You are talking new equipment but the old packages. Everything changes tomorrow night. The new packages look like this:
DishHD Bronze $49.99 w/ locals $54.99 (AT60+HD)
DishHD Silver $59.99 w/ locals $64.99 (AT120+HD)
DishHD Gold $69.99 w /locals $74.99 (AT180+HD)
DishHD Platnum $99.99 w/ locals $104.99 (AEP+HD)
Here we have Voom and the Dish HD channels all combined. If you want HD then Voom is included. Plus the overall price just went up just a little bit.
Voom is a nice assortment of channels. I particularlly like the Monsters HD and Rave HD channels the best. Monsters explains itself and Rave has some great concerts from Barry Manilow to Fleetwood Mac to new stuff as well all in glorious HD. Go to www.voom.com for more info on them and see all their channels effective 2/1/2005. All 15 of them but at this moment we all only get 10.

Part of the reasoning of my post was because it all seemed too simple and familiar. I do remember reading on the new web site (which isn't up anymore) that there was a different description of the options. I wish I had saved the pages that detailed the lineups for each.
One thing I forgot to mention in my previous post is that I was also told that the 942 will have a software update available to make it compatible with the new mpeg4 signals. I haven't seen that mentioned here on this forum. It's my understanding from posts on this board that the 942 will be obsolote.
Mike
daleb 01-30-2006, 04:27 PM I believe on Satellite Guys, or one of those other Sat / Cable forums, someone provided a link to the actual chip manufacturer for Dish and other similar receivers. They had info on new chips going into production for supporting MPEG4.
I think that's when some us got a clue that the change would require more than software.
calicogang 01-30-2006, 11:46 PM The 942 will not work with MPEG4, and it is not upgradeable. You will need the new dish and a new box for MPEG4. Charlie is following DTV with MPEG4, with the exception that MPEG4 was started three months ago.
