Receiver Questions...

Big thanks to all who have been answering my questions... This should be the last for a while.

I'm signing up for Dish as a new customer. On Feb 1st hopefully. I'm not going to get the 622 because I don't want to own and I'm not paying $300 to lease something. I don't want to own because I'm not sure I'll like E* in the long run or not. But the wife still wants a DVR so... I'm planning on getting the 211 for the living room HDTV and a standard DVR receiver for my standard TV in the bedroom.

My 1st question: Is there a way to watch programs recorded on the standard DVR in the bedroom on the TV in my living room? If the standard DVR were dual tuner I'd think so, but some cabling might be required of course. Anyone done this?

Second question: Is there a preferred standard DVR receiver that I should get? With the 942 becoming obsolete for HDTV any chances E* would use them for standard DVRs. I'd like that because of the big hard drive and it's a dual tuner.

If you've never experienced an interactive DVR, you better not do it now, because you will never want to part with it.
Just my opinion, but it adds a lot to the overall enjoyment in terms of convenience and entertainment.

If you want HD and a dvr. I'd wait till April for the 622. The lease fee will still be $299., but there will be a $200 rebate with it, but you have to subscribe to the new HD package. The 921 will still be usable after Feb 1. If you add HD before Feb you will not be requires to update HD packages to the new pricing. The 921 can still be activated after Feb 1st, but you will not be able to add HD with exception of any of the locals available to you OTA. They are not through Dish and you will not be charged for them. Hope this helps.

I thought the 200 dollor rebate was only going to be available to existing customers. For $99 I'd lease the 622. But god I don't think I can wait until April.

Does E* offer an OTA antenna like D* does? If they do I'm sure it's crap but it should suffice for me. I get OTA fairly well with rabbit ears right now but anytime a truck drives by it cuts out. :o

I have a Motorola 6412 Phase III right now. It's an HD DVR and I do really like it. My wife won't part with a DVR after having it. But all the shows she records are in SD so I don't absolutely need a 622. I'd like to have one but not knowing if I'm going to stay with E* long term I can't justify purchasing or paying $299 to lease one. If what garys says is true then I might wait until April. I can part with $99 and still have a clear conscience.

The $99 deal is for existing cutomers who trade in a 942, 921, etc. I doubt very much that new customers will get that deal since they aren't trading in any existing equipment. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You ARE CORRECT! The $200 rebate after April 1st is for existing HD customers that have 921 & 942 receivers (that we paid big $$$ for) and turn them. Anyone else new or existing--$299 to lease.

I was beginning to wonder why so many were missing that point.

I wanted to believe it myself!

I have not seen a Facts Blast from Dish regarding who the $200 rebate will apply to. One CSR told me it would also apply to an 811 upgrade to a 622. Time will tell !!!

lookn4HDTV,
If you DVR something in the BR, you can either diplex the Ch3 modulated signal back toward the main TV, or run a second cable to the main set. Sorta depends on the cable routing.

My bad. Didn't take notice of Looking4HDTV being new customer. He will not get rebate unless he can get a 921 or 942 and sign up before Feb. 1st.

April 1st.... they don't sign up for an exchange and rebate until April 1st. Will not do them any good to sign up Feb. 1st. In Charlie's words.."to those who are patient....".

Feb. 1s for the rest of us no rebate guys.
