I connected my new HDMI cable from the back of my 211 receiver to the back of my HDTV.Everytime someone talked on tv they madea hissing sound. Is this common when using the HDMI connector..also do I need a external stereo speaker system to use when the hdmi is connected to my tv?
I put my component cable on - and took the HDMI off..the picture on my tv a nd the sound was 100 per cent better !
Whats the big deal about HDMI ??!!!!
It really was a disappointment to ME !

I tried both connections, HDMI and Component and could tell no difference in picture/audio quality. I am using a A/V receiver but have the optical out on the 211 for audio and the HDMI directly into the Pioneer 1120 media box so I am not using the receiver for any video function only audio. Did you use the RCA audio connections on the 211 for both HDMI and Component connections? If so, double check these connections. If you used the HDMI connection for both audio/video there may be a sound menu setting on the TV to stabilize this connection. On page 70 of the 211 user's guide HDTV audio/video connection, they show the HDMI carrying both A/V. However, at the bottom of the page they also discuss RCA connections for the audio. Not likely but possible, you might have a bad HDMI cable. If you only used the HDMI for both A/V try the RCA
connection along with the HDMI connection.

I spoke to a Dish Network tech on the phone today who solved the mystery of my hissing sound on my tv when I connect my hdmi from the 211 receiver to my Samsung HDTV's HDMI.
Apparently it comes down to some Samsung and Sony tv models and other brands when connected from to a 211 receivers hdmi. Hissing sound is one of the common complaints.
I'm sending my hdmi cable back to where I bought it starting Monday morning.Live and learn.
