Which cities are going to get the HD locals first? I know they are major markets, but which markets are we talking about here? I'm in Pittsburgh.

Thanks,

Dave

Hey Dude!
No! No! NYC has to be first! February 1st comes here 3 hours before LA.. lol
Also, somebody around here has a sharp eye. They noticed a new page on the DishNetwork web site that talks about what is new. The page needs work as some links like the one to HD locals do not work properly yet but it does say that besides CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox we will also get WB, UPN and PBS. Now that is good news.

Has anyone in these markets (NY, LA, Chicago, Boston) checked with Dish Network to see which dish is required to receive the local channels in HD? Dish500 compatible for these local channels in HD? or need Dish1000? I called up Dish Network and spoke with a tech rep and they still didn't know if dish equipment upgrade is necessary or not for this, I currently have the 211 receivers so I'm okay on that end. Thanks.

When I spoke with the tech rep today, I asked them which markets. I asked them if it was Boston, NY, Chicago, and LA and they told me it wasn't Boston and is Atlanta. But then again, they didn't know if the Dish1000 was necessary either.

So I just got my Dish Network installed this week with Top 60s and HD package and they gave me a Dish500. What kind of package selection would they install the Dish1000?

Thanks.

You should of got the Dish 1000 with the VIP211. I'd call them back, and see if they could swap it out for you. I remember reading several different sites where it said you'd need to upgrade to the VIP211 or the 622 AND have a Dish 1000 installed to recieve the new MPG4 channels and HD Locals.

U people just need to calm down about this new programing comming out. Yea there are going to be 50 local markets with HD locals. But wht you all dont understand is that those 50 markets are going to be released within the year following Feb 1. So your market could not be released for 6 to 12 months. You can call dish all you want but i assure you that you can talk to 5 different people and ask them all the same questions about this. You will get at least 3 different answers. They dont even know who will be the first to get local hd. They just get memos on there computers and tell you what ever they have to to keep you happy. Trust me, just calm down and take your time with ordering all this stuff because some of you will be disappointed i assure you that. Oh and if you have a 811 or want to upgrade another hd receiver to a 622 (duel, HD, DVD) which is replacing the 942, you can for $299 (depending on what programing you have). If you want till April you will get a $200 rebate. Or it might be March.......see i got 2 different answers from two different people when i called. The funny thing is, is that i install for dish, so i should ahve all the info....but not the way i works. We dont even have the 211's in yet, just the 411's. So what does that tell you.
