HD Dish Network in a Condo [Re-post]

I'm reposting the following as my earlier one was giving errors in the thread:

I just moved into a multi-story condo in Chicago where Dish is our tv service provider. At this time I think the only HD receiver option available to me is the 811. From what I understand, this will not pick up the new MPEG4 HD local channels. Is this correct? Can I get the newer receivers on my own? Does my condo building have to have special components for us to pick up the new HD channels?

Any info or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

At this time I think the only HD receiver option available to me is the 811. From what I understand, this will not pick up the new MPEG4 HD local channels. Is this correct?Yes.Can I get the newer receivers on my own?Yes. DishDepot (http://www.dishdepot.com/) seems to be a popular choice for purchasing new Dish receivers. Does my condo building have to have special components for us to pick up the new HD channels?Other than a new receiver, probably not. But I can't know at what sat locations you condo has their antenna(e) pointed. This link (http://ekb./dishlist.htm) provides a list of channels available on each sat. Since you're in Chicago, I'm guessing your condo has antenna(e) pointed at the following three locations, 110, 119 and 129. They might have more? I'd suggest checking with the condo folks regarding the current programming package(s) available to you via their equipment and the 811. That should tell the story of whether or not they're prepared for the upgrade. Magic words to listen for include, "You can receive Locals... HD Package... and Voom Package." Those are the current programming packages/sat locations that would cover all of the new HD programming.

Hope this thread yields fewer errors for you :)
