Cable for locals? 921 connection question!

Hi All,

Kind of a simple question.....

Husband says NO to an antennna on the roof for HD locals (men!) - I have some little Rat Shack ant on my tv and I get two HD channels, and I am hooked and salivating for HD locals (zip 95843) - since I probably won't get them from Dish for a year or so - I am pondering ordering cable just for hd locals - here is my question:

I know I can connect the Cable directly to my tv, but, could I also connect it to the back of my 921, as I would an OTA? Obviously, this would be so I can utilize the DVR -

Thanks for your help!
CM

Cable usually uses their own box for the HD feeds. The signal will pass through the DN receiver but the DVR will not work with them.

Have you tired an indoor antenna like the Silver Sensor or Radio Shack's version? These are UHF...have to make sure all your HD's are UHF ('most' are). www.antennaweb.com
Bar that, with no antenna on roof digital cable is your best shot with their DVR.

Hi,

Thanks for the info...one more question,

Why is it if I use the connection from the tv top antenna to my 921, that the box doesn't pick up any signal at all? Do I need to use an adapter and what do I look for? I think the 921 has to have coax going into it, and my uhf antenna just has the standard, "non screw" type .....

Perhaps I will try the silver sensor, I just thought that all tv tops were the same.

Thanks,
CM

Have no idea, unless you are just in a bad reception area. But some do work better.

People also put antennas in their attics, although they don't work as well as roof mounted ones, they're better than set top rabbit ears.
