New poster here-Im thinking of buying a Sony XBR40" HDTV KDL-V40XBR1. Im not near the technical genius some of you are about LCD HDTV units so Im simply posting to see what other opinions
about this TV are. Im tired of waiting till my Curtiss Mathis quits(its a good one Ive had forever) but Im ready to step up the LCD HDTV. Thanks for answering.

If you do a search on KDL-V40XBR1 on this forum I think you will find a number of positive opinions on this LCD.

I have had a KDL-V40XBR1 for 2 1/2 months. The HD picture is absolutely stunning, I really cannot imagine how it could get much better. However, like apparently many people have experienced, non-HD on an HD TV leaves a lot to be desired, the PQ is just simply a disappointment, especially considering what you have paid for the TV.

One thing that surprised me is that the KDL-V40XBR1 does not have PIP, I thought nearly all high-end TVs now had that feature.

I have the Verizon FiOS service, and have 19 HD channels available, including all of my local channels, so I generally have a reasonable amount of HD material to view, but if I did not I would not want an HD TV at all, at least not now. I eagerly await more HD channels (and more HD material on the existing HD channels).

The XBR is probably the best LCD you can buy, but you may also want to consider the 40" Samsung, in which is also a very good tv and also has PIP.

The Samsung LN-R409D is nice but the previous 40" models from Samsung are CR@P. Problem is the new Samsung actually costs more than the SONY XBR but less quality.
