I just stumbled upon this forum while doing a search for reviews on the Hitachi VS810. I've frequented other forums like AVS, HTF, etc... Nice to find another one! :)
Anyhow, I bought a 61" JVC DILA (all-black) on Sept. 6th. However, they were out of stock, and are not expected until mid to late October. So I have had some time to think about my purchase...
What do you folks think of the JVC versus the Hitachi? For those of you who own the Hitachi, how are reflections if you have it in a room with a lot of light opposite the TV?
I would love to see a Hitachi VX915 TV, but I don't know who might carry it in my area, and it would probably be out of my price range anyhow.
Any advice is welcome!

I've been scrutinizing several sets at multiple locations for months, and can say without reservation that nothing I've seen holds a candle to the Hitachi 50V810 (or other Cineform or Director's Series set). Gorgeous picture, excellent blacks, rich colors, 3D image, ample inputs and features, and aesthetic beauty even when the power is off.
The glare will be an issue (*less so on the Director's Series) if you do not have a dark room, but no worse than a traditional CRT or RPTV with a plastic/glass screen.
The JVC has noticeable 'artifacts' everywhere I've seen it. Certain color areas (reds mostly) just seem to pixelate badly. Noticed it on several instances when someone was wearing a red shirt and in motion. The JVC is bright, and doesn't have a visible SDE, but I don't see the SDE on the Hitachi from 3' away, so it's a wash.
Just my 2 cents. I'm ordering the Hitachi.

See... That's just the problem. The place I will put the set for the next 2 months has windows opposite the TV. In the new house, there is a window to the side. Part of the reason I wanted to go with a digital set is so that I can have a brighter picture and not worry about burn-in. And now I have to worry about reflections? Ugh...
I would love to consider the Hitachi 60VX915 which has an anti-glare screen, but there are no Director's Series dealers in Wisconsin, and it is probably too expensive anyway.

So... why the silent majority for the VS810?
Speak up! Why is it better? What about glare?

Do you have much light in the room with the TV? I'm wondering how bad the glare would be on this TV with windows on opposite wall...

I voted for the Hitachi simply because the D-ILA technology is IMO too new and unstable. Hopefully you get a keeper and not a lemon then all will be good.

Packfan,
Both Colder's locations in Milwaukee sell the 60VX915. I saw this TV and was blown away by the brightness, picture detail and viewing angle. Colder's has not yet received the 50VX915, which is the model I'm probably going to buy, but it's still a toss-up between the 50 and 60.

Are you sure? I was told that there are no Director's Series dealers in Wisconsin... It wasn't the 60VS810?

The Colder's salesman made me a copy from their Hitachi catalog and it was for the VX915 series. I stated that I was looking for the new 50" model and he said that it is not yet in stock. Maybe the salesman was misinformed about the model Colder's would stock and gave me the wrong number, so I'll stop by the Oak Creek store on my way home tomorrow to verify.

the VS810 is a beautiful model...if you do the majority of your sitting in front of the tv then glare would be an issue whilst you still live in your old house...but once you move to your second house and you still sit in the middle or towards the middle, the screen would not pick up glare. From what your are telling me, the windows in the second house are on the side walls, 90 degrees offset from where the tv would be...
