I finally have HD on my plasma but I am having trouble with my DVD player. HOW DO I HOOK IT UP???? :(
Scroll down and you will see the back of my TV (http://www.highdefforum.com/showthread.php?t=15566&page=1&pp=10)
I have a progressive TV and those normal colored cables, I also have a S-video cable, what do I use and where do I hook them up to?
The book says to hook up to the audio out and s-video or video out of the DVD player to the audio in and video in (or S video) of the TV.....but when I do that I get this weird picture when I play a movie. There is a HUGE yellow logo in the middle of the screen that says PSAN!...and there are two screens on the TV showing the movie. This is bugging me, please help!!!
Thank you

Does the audio out from the DVD player plug into the audio in on the TV? If you look at the back of the TV, there is a audio in on the upper right hand side of the panel, do I use them?
Okay, I figured it out. There is a progressive switch on the back of the DVD player, I turned it off and then the yellow icon disappeared and the picture became normal.
I guess I need component cables in order to use pscan, right? I also assume the picture will be much better? The picture I seen yesterday could have been a little better.

Yes, I'd recommend component cables and progressive scan.

Yes, you MUST use Component cables for progressive, SVideo can only carry interlaced 480i. Your audio connection to the TV is only an analog stereo pair, and can carry ProLogic psuedosurround at best, like VHS or analog TV. You need an SPDIF connection, coax or optical, to a Surround decoding amp.

Calling ProLogic pseudosurround is like calling black and white TV pseudoTV. We need a different discription as ProLogic is not counterfeit or fake surround, the dictionary definition of pseudo. ProLogic was the forerunner of DD and DTS.
There are those clunky delay boxes of the '70 and effects simulators they build into many surround receivers. I'd come close to calling them pseudosurround.

Slightly off subject, rbnick..have you run across HDMI switches other than Geffen?
Geffen is only one I've seen that's remote. And I've heard Lindy has some excellent switches, but they are manual. I know there a lot cheaper ones around, but none are remote.

I was responding to post #6.
Haven't looked, but maybe Key Digital. www.keydigital.com (http://www.keydigital.com/).

I know, I should not have used the 'quote' ...thanks!
Their least expensive 'switch' is also a scaler, and handles 4 separate devices. I think at $1700, I will skip that for now.
Geffen looks like the only remote operated for a simple 2X1 switch.

You're right... how about non-discrete matrixed analog surround (as opposed to indiscrete sounds) instead of psuedo...
I had a Sansui Quad system that did a decent job, although few recordings were well matrixed... there was a Led Zepplin that really kicked ass... the sonic spins were 'groovy man'! :D

Maybe just matrixed surround.

Hey guys, if you look at the picture I supplied in this thread, you will see a coax cable going into the TV, but when the tech guys from DTV installed my HD receiver, they didn't run one of those cables to the TV.....should they have?

They probably reconnected the OTA antenna to their HD box. That way you don't have to switch the TV from the satellite to the internal tuner to watch local HD. You could add a splitter to hook up the TV if you wanted to.

Try monoprice, 2x1 switcher with remote, less than $100. Cables are around $8.
