Issue connecting Epson projector to receiver

It's my first time installing a home theater system in my home. I purchased the epson 8350 projector along with a Yamaha RX 571. I was told by the best buy staff, aside from hooking up all the cable wire to the speakers, all I'd need to do is run 1 HDMI cable from the HDMI out of the Receiver, to the input of the projector(HDMI 1). I did as instructed, and I am not getting any video, or audio. The projector does not read the signal. Am I hooking this up right? I went ahead and tested the HDMI cable by running the cable directly from my PS3 to the projector and I still got nothing. The length of the cable is 15ft. I unplugged the HDMI cable and used a different one. I was able to get video from the ps3. So my first question, is the connection from the receiver out to the projector correct? And the second, is there something wrong with this HDMI cable?

You should be able to connect everything (PS3 and cable box) to the receiver via HDMI and then a single HDMI out to the projector. Switch to that input on the receiver and it should work fine. Just make sure you are using the HDMI out on the receiver to the projector and not an in. But sounds like you have it right. If bypassing the receiver by connecting the PS3 up directly does not work and trying a different HDMI cable did, sounds like a cable issue to me. Try a new 15 ft. cable from here for around $15..
