How to update an ASUS BIOS. There has to be an easier way, right?

My shabby old ECS mobo could update the BIOS through Windows. This description is like something out of 1998.



I'm trying to update 2+2's BIOS for him because the one that came stock on his board has a problem with the CPU temperature diode. When in the BIOS it hover in the high 80c area and eventually shuts down. Did some googling. Some say the temperature diode is bugged in the BIOS, some say the fan doesn't start spinning til Windows boots on the original BIOS.

WTF.

Yeah, so every time I boot into my BIOS I get some warning that my CPU is so hot that I'm about to start a nuclear winter or some shit.

kamspy linked me files for a BIOS update, and I try following the directions:

I boot off the CD that came with my mobo, then it goes to FreeDOS, then I type "E:" and it can't find my thumbdrive even though it's plugged in.

And I checked the thumb drive on my MacBook Pro; OS X says the thumb drive is formatted to FAT32.

OK I got it to boot the thumb drive but now when I try to update the BIOS I get this error:

"The selected BIOS file is not compatible with the current BIOS"

Now let's see if I can actually OC it. :lol:
