OT: Wahooo! Winter Break! ^_^

Semester's over, which means I don't have to go back to work until January 5th! :D

I am gonna play sooooo much Skyrim. :p

Probably the best thing about working in Academia...when school's out you don't have to work.

Anyone else here on an Academic schedule and about to enjoy a long break?

Make sure that you don't burn out on Skyrim, but have fun with your break! Any other plans besides lounging on the couch?

I'm thinking I might take a short trip in late December.

Might go see one of my old college buddies in Miami or possibly I might go visit kamspy in Cincinnati.

If you decide to come up to Cincinnati, come hit us up. I live in the city itself, and I think kams lives just north of me. We don't have much here, but we do have a LOT of awesome Cincinnati native food. Before you leave, you'll want to have made sure to hit up

Graeters Ice Cream
Montgomery Inn Ribs
Skyline Chili(the best Cincinnati style)
Empress Chili(the original Cincinnati style)
Caffe' Joes coffee
Aglemesis Brothers Ice Cream
Voss Jewelry if you wanna dress as a dope boy from one of the best custom jewelry designers in the world. He has created custom pieces for people like Gucci Mane, Kat Williams, Brickyard Entertainment, and others.

So yeah if it's cool with kamspy's wife/family I might just plan on taking a roadtrip to Cincinnati.

I don't do drugs, but I bet Kams would take you up on the offer. The only thing to keep in mind is that the weather can get unpredictable this time of year, and we tend to get a lot of ice. Cincinnatians can't drive worth crap when the weather is dry, let alone when the weather gets bad. All it takes is a light drizzle for Cincinnatians to start getting into multi car pileups on the interstate. Also make sure you have good insurance as Cincinnatians don't like driving insured. I read a figure a few years ago that only 60-65% of Cincinnatians have insurance which is right on with the insured rate in the state of OH.

Oh, and becareful if you plan on bringing your laptop or desktop with ya, as I hear someone's kids like making peanut butter sandwiches with video cards :D

This would actually be the primary thing I'd be worried about, is icy roads.

Down here in the South we have no idea how to drive if the roads get icy, which is pretty rare.

And every now and then when it does snow or something (maybe once every 3-4 years or so), nobody leaves their house.

So the whole weather thing, might make or break a roadtrip up to that area.

You will probably be fine. While some of our worst winter storms have come around Christmas, the nasty stuff usually comes in Jan or Feb. Because we get a lot of ice, they generally do a very good job of clearing the big roads and interstates. Just don't forget to dodge the POS drivers.

You live in SoCal, right?

I lived in Los Angeles for a while, and yeah, you guys have some of the best weed in the United States.

And the great thing about it is, where you live, is that you don't even have to fuck with drug dealers!

California "medical marijuana" is totally awesome. I was smoking that stuff the entire time I lived in LA.

It's such a crazy, corrupt system. Like basically you ask your stoner friends which doctors will write you a script for medicinal marijuana.

Then you show up at one of these doctors offices and they ask you are you on indigent care/medicare/whatever, and you tell them, "no, I've got medical insurance." Then they smile and tell you to go into the room and wait.

Then, the doctor comes in, and you basically just make up some crazy fucking nonsense. Like, you tell the doc that you get eyeball headaches or some other ridiculous thing.

You walk out with a "doctor's recommendation" for medical marijuana.

At this point, you can shop around at the dispensaries and "pharmacies" and just buy whatever weed you want.

Not only is this totally awesome (buying your pot at a "store" instead of fucking with drug dealers), but the actual medicinal marijuana you buy is Grade A high-quality KB (kind bud).

Basically, I hated LA but the whole medical marijuana system, that part was pretty great. :p Lol.

Unfortunately I'm hearing the dispensaries are going to be getting shut down pretty soon. I dunno about anything official, but I do know some growers/providers...

Yeah, I've been hearing/reading things about the medical marijuana scene over there in Cali.

I'll be honest, I don't really keep up with the news as much as I should, but I do know that the whole medical marijuana scene in California isn't the "wild wild west" that it used to be (basically, just about anyone could legally buy pot).

From what I understand, the whole "dispensary" bubble is about to burst, or something of that nature.

What exactly is going on over there regarding medical marijuana? I know that stuff is changing, but I don't really know why or what's happening...

And yeah they grow bomb shit. I can't smoke it anymore but I sure do like the hash infused candies :D

I'm not actually keen on pot brownies/hash candy/cannabutter/etc. It's a different kind of high than smoking or vaping.

Smoking/vaping is basically a mental high, and eating it is more of a physical "full-body" high. I'm not really that fond of it, tbh.

Every time I've eaten weed-infused food, I get this uncomfortable feeling like I just took too much Lortab or something. I end up having to drink at least 2 cups of coffee to even be able to move around.

I'd much rather smoke/vape...but yeah, I know some people like you who actually really dig eating it.

It's one of those things, where I guess it's a matter of personal preference.

Hmmmm....Miami or Cincinnati in December? Yup, that's a tough one. :D

(Nothing against kampsy and amdgamer)

Yeah, but...do you realize how expensive Miami is? Everything there costs way more than it should, and during Winter I'd imagine they inflate prices even more because the average Joe would probably think "hmmm, Miami would be a nice thing to do to get away from cold weather."

First time I went to Miami, we went to South Beach one night to do the whole "walk around South Beach" thing. Bottle of beer costed like $8 or something. And I mean just like a regular bottle of beer. It was pretty much the same thing for restaurants and taxis and stuff.

And god forbid you bring a woman down there with you, because you're either gonna have to tell her that she can't do much shopping, or take out a second mortgage on your house. Even the fake shit is expensive. Like the fake Louis-Vaton (or however you spell it) purses that the Cubans are selling, are overpriced.

If you actually drive to Miami rather than fly, you know that in you're in for a pricey trip due to the fact that you actually have pay at toll roads in 3 different places along the way to even get there.

Only reason I'm even thinking about Miami is because I have an old college buddy living there now that I can stay with and show me how to have a decent time down there without paying the insane "tourist tax." :p

We have great food (and drink) here in Wisco, also. But, no one comes here for the food.

If it was my choice, It would be a no-brainer. I would wait until spring or summer to go to Cincinnati and go to Miami in the winter. But that's me coming from an even worse winter climate than Cincinnati. If I lived in Atlanta, I may feel differently. Summer is great here, but I wouldn't tell anyone to come here in the winter, unless you like ice fishing or snowmobiling (or drinking heavily).

2+2 - If you drive to Cincy let me know as well I am in Ohio - a little ways from Cincy but perhaps Kams you and I could meet in Columbus (midway- about an hour from cincy and 1 1/2 from me) for an afternoon. You would be surprised because ohio (or so I hear- wouldn't know meself ;) ) has some excellent nugs. Mags county is pretty famous but with the plethora of indoor grows around it is literally always christmas around here. I know a few guys getting ready to harvest right at x-mas time.

PS - stay as far away from skyline chili as you can. That shit is nasty and will have you on the john all day long.

Oh hell yeah, if you know some cats growing up in Ohio I'd be down with that. :D

Also I just looked up marijuana laws in Ohio...wow, you guys have it made up there! Possession of less than 100 grams isn't even a misdemeanor. It's just a $150 fine, basically a traffic ticket. And what's even better is that it's the same thing for giving a "gift" of 20 grams or less. Haha, that's awesome.

It appears I won't be up there around Christmas time actually, but I still intend to go at some point when mine and kamspy's schedules fit.

Even though your friends harvest at X-mas, I'd be guessing they get a pretty good yield that lasts a while??

Columbus is actually about 2 hours north of Cincinnati although one might be able to make it in an hour based on how fast i've seen people drive on I-71.

Well I'd be driving from Georgia, which I'd guess-timate is probably 8 hours give or take.

So an extra 2 hours isn't much of a big deal really.

You should honestly be fine. I've seen lots of people with fragile plumbing who eat Skyline and are fine with it. When it comes to food, we've pretty much got it all. Montgomery Inn has arguably some of the best ribs in the world. Graeters and Aglamesis Bros. have some of the best French pot style ice cream in the world. Skyline Chili is arguably the best chili place for Cincinnati style chili in the world. Empress Chili was the first to have Cincinnat style chili. Plus if you like German food, we've got quite a few German restaurants around here due to the heavy German protestant influence that built the city. Oh, and don't forget to stop at White Castles for slyders if you don't have them down in your region. Those little square burgers are addictive for some reason, and are supposedly most enjoyable when you are stoned out of your mind. Of course the common saying is that you don't buy White Castles as you rent them, but that is nothing a little immodium or pepto won't fix.

Plus, 2+2 is good people. I've been really sedentary this year because of the wife's respiratory failure and recovery, and I've probably chatted and talked with 5 more than any of my real friends. It's weird that I conversate with my internet people more than my boys, which is really a good thing for my relationship with the law. Any event with my "old friends", at least the ones who are still local, would involve cocaine, hoes, brown liquor, and possibly armed robbery.

I don't judge people for what they do in their own homes and their own time... as far as I see it people can do whatever they want to as long as they handle their business.

I get what you mean though, I don't live to close to any of my RL friends. I honestly do not know anybody in the city I'm living in other than being acquainted from work. How's the old gal doing Kams? Better I hope.

heheheh... you ever have an old (shady) friend that randomly shows up on your doorstep after not seeing him for a long time? And then you randomly looking past him to see who's chasing them

I conversate with my internet people more than my boys, which is really a good thing for my relationship with the law. Any event with my "old friends", at least the ones who are still local

close to any of my RL friends.

Let's not count coworkers as friends. I'm really good "friends" with a lot of the other professors at my Uni but it's not like we really interact outside of the Math building except on the rare occasion that we go out for lunch together.

Alright, so if we don't count co-workers as "friends," then for the most part all of my RL friends are generally a pain in the ass.

A few of my "old" friends now have serious problems such as being on parole or being a junkie. Of course I avoid these folks, but there's not really much you can do to stop some loser you knew in high school from Google-ing your name and finding out your email address. Or they have my cell phone number because it's not changed in a decade. :banghead:

Then most of the rest of my RL so-called "friends" seem to only be my friend when they're out of weed, can't afford weed, or unable to locate good weed. Like they'll show up to "hang out" with me and they'll pretend like they give a shit about my gameroom or whatever, but every time I see them it's always:

Them: "Yeah, this is cool. I like this movie too. Let's get stoned and watch it. It's better when you're baked."

Me: "Sure"

Them: "I'm actually kinda dry right now, do you gotta stash?"

I would MUCH rather talk to my friends on Steam or HDF or whatever because at least I don't have to worry about them ringing my doorbell on Sunday night while I'm trying to watch Family Guy. :p

Do some PBR shotguns and smoke a bunch of that K-5 shit Eck has been talking about. Then maybe borrow your car for a couple hours or so. You know, typical internet meeting shit. We gotta invite Booooooobbbbbbbbbbsssssssssssssssss as well. I want to see him fit that on his name tag.

Good point. I don't want to overwhelm him. What if we deep fry the pork roast in the backyard?

I was hoping Cheap would be around, but I heard there was a Fable 3 Reunion or some shit, going on that weekend. ;)
