I definitley know I prefer a plasma for picture quality. I need to pick up a new 42" in the next couple days. I like Samsung. But notice that Sams, Bj's, and Walmart all seem to have the same tv different model numbers. I have seen a pn43d430 (Walmart) pn43d440(sams) and pn43d450(Bj's). Cant see any difference in them. I know I wont spring for a model up for the 3D. Are these tv's pretty much the same?
I believe they are essentially the same TVs. Different department stores get slightly different models for the same TV, I've noticed this with TVs at Best Buy compared to TVs at Costco.

Many large retail stores will order a huge amount of HDTVs with their own model number put on them for a couple of reasons. One reason is that they order HDTVs built to their own specifications, usually fewer features and/or lower quality, so they can sell them at a lower price.
Another reason is to fool the customer with their price matching scheme. Retailer A might, for example say that they will beat any price the consumer finds on the "exact same" model. Well, since all of THEIR HDTVs bear their own model #, that's going to be an impossibility. Now you may find the same HDTV with a lower price at Retailer B, but with a different model # on it. If you take the price to Retailer A, they will tell you that it's not the same model #, so they can't match or beat the price. Sure, it's exactly the same HDTV...just a different # pasted on the back.
Either way, the consumer is NOT the winner here. IMHO, you are usually better off purchasing an HDTV that bears the manufacturer's original model #. . :2cents
