Are any of you buying the MK (9) DLC?

I'm just curious how well this stuff is sitting with you guys... I absolutely loved this game, I would even say it's probably my GOTY, but that said... at $5 a pop, I'm having trouble getting on board these new characters; that just seems prohibitively expensive to me.

Especially since I've got a serious OCD about completion... If I buy one, I'm going to have to buy them all, and now you're talking about putting another $20 into a game I'm not playing all that often anymore, and they aren't even done creating new content yet.

On its own $5 doesn’t sound totally egregious for a whole new character, but when all is said and done, if you're going to end up spending more for the DLC then the game cost, that hurts. Does that bother anybody else? It just doesn't make sense to me... I got what, 25 characters plus the insane amounts of other content in there for the initial $60, but another 4 are going to cost me $20? That just doesn't sit well with me...

The newest one coming, Rain, does look fan-effing-tastic though... Ugh, so conflicted...

Eh. I should probably trade this in before it loses any more value. Thanks for reminding me I own it.

Very good game, but SSFIV AE just completely eclipsed it for me.

Hah, well, I guess you won't be buying any DLC then... I'd be all over it if I played any MP, but I don't play online, and my local MK buddies come over like twice a year at best. I had a great time with the SP in that, but buying DLC chars just seems extravegent for that purpose.

I think my days of trading-in are rapidly coming to a close too. I may still do it from time to time if I really hate something, but it's gotten just insane at GameStop recently.

I traded in DeadSpace 2 a couple of months back... The game had probably been out for 2 months or so at that point, they had used copies on the shelf for I believe 44.99, and they offered me $12 for it.

Then I traded in Shadows of the Damned, they gave me $18 and were selling it for $54.99.

The guy standing in line behind me was trying to trade-in a Wii. They offered him $14 for it.

I mean, I get that they have to make a profit and all, but it's starting to just feel like highway robbery. Give me at least half what you're going to sell it for when there is virtually no overhead on that stuff. They scan it and drop it back on the floor, it seems like
they should be able to do that for less then $25. Maybe I'm just getting bitter in my old age...

You mean SFII HD? I just downloaded that the other day.

Yeah I know, its reskinned SFII with some new characters. The game is so identical to SFII its hilarious. Basically a remastered version.

Yeah, they took some steps backwards from SF3, but it adds alot to SF2. Personally I don't like most of what it adds (Ultras).

Oh come on, that's a pretty crazy simplification...

Yes, they started with the base characters from SF2:TWW, but really, what other choice did they have?... I'm sure they assumed SF3 failed due to the new cast, and they weren't going to take that risk again. And just from my own perspective as a die-hard SF freak, they did exactly what I was hoping they'd do with it. Reboot the series from it's strongest point using polygons instead of sprites.

I mean, what else were they going to do with it? They already have the Vs and X series going again, so they weren't going to go down those crazy-ass roads, and a lot of die-hards like myself would have been totally put off if they had signifigantly changed the engine. (Like, moving to a "real" 3D fighting plane for example)

SF4 is almost perfect if you asked me. It's a seamless mix of SSF2X and SF3, with a little Alpha tossed in for good measure. Total departure from the slow, methodic gameplay of SF2:TWW. I would have liked to see a bigger cancelling system, and maybe running with the countering system they started in SF3, but otherwise, it's as good as it gets in my book.

All the moves are exactly the same. Even Guile's kick animations are basically the same. I never played SF3, but I was shocked at how strictly SFIV adhered to the original game/gameplay of SF2

Well, I get where you're coming from, but it really is a lot different. I don't want to come off sounding like some kind of elitist jackwagon, but for 20 year SF hard-core players, there's a pretty signifigant difference between Sf2 and Sf4. 4 is a much, much deeper fighting engine, and a total departure from the turtling and 3 hit combo system that rules the world of competitive Sf2 matches.

There is also some angles to SF4 that feel like they were put in to give newer or less experienced players a better chance at pulling a round. (Ultras for example), but it's still a much deeper engine overall then SF2:WW ever was.

I mean, just on a very basic level, just the special move game is entirely different in Sf4. Outside of even talking about the ex moves, supers and such, the whole gameplay of Sf4 is WAY more focused on special moves and ultra combos, as where Sf2 is much more focused on he straight-up attacks of each character. Just the damage scaling alone changes up the combo game, as well as canceling and the ability to ex any special move.

I'm not suggesting that Sf4 is some huge leap forward for the franchise; I'm in total agreement with kamspy that it actually feels like a step backwards from 3, but it's still a completely different world from Sf2. And that's not a knock at 2:WW, thats still my favorite overall.

Btw man, since you've got a gaming rig, you should give Sf3 a try one of these days. It's a really solid game and has perfect emulation at this point. I dont know if MAME has it running full-steam yet, but I have a couple of emus in my cab that can run it flawlessly. I wanna say Nebula, but I might be wrong...
I know some "third-party" flavors of MAME can run it pretty well. You should give it a shot, it's really nice. Probably the most fluid animation Capcom has ever had in a SF game.

I put the game away so I'm probably not getting the DLC (especially with NCAA out now). It is kind of steep for costumes or a few characters.

If you think that's an expensive DLC, look into what is offered for a about a half dozen more courses on the latest Tiger Woods...not to mention if you bought all the other little perks. I believe someone said with the Master's edition plus DLC, it would cost $125 or 225 or something like that.

If you want a better trade deal, go to Best Buy. I bought a game off GameStop about a month ago. Dead Rising 2. Total POS. I paid $30 new. Two days later, I wanted to trade it back. They offered $9. Best Buy offered $20 so I traded it for Infamous 2 + the difference. Totally worth it. I'll take the $10 hit like a rental fee. The only way to make out from GameStop is when they offer the big trades. I think they offered 50% for NCAA 11 if you bought 12 today.

I ONLY trade at gamestop when they are offering 50% incentives towards things. Otherwise you get completely reamed. BUT remember. They SIT on that product for a while. So they'll buy it off you and then it takes up space till they sell it. 200% profit margin in that case doesn't seem unreasonable.

DLC makes this game too expensive to upkeep. Just like the Halo series and console CODs. End up costing over $100 in the life of the game.

Amazon is offering $30 for MK if anyone was wondering.

i freaking love this game, i was always a MK guy over street fighter back in the day and finally playing it in 2d again with all the mk 1,2 and 3 characters was really nostalgic. I have bought all released dlc so far (classic kostumes/skarlet and kenshi) and will be buying rain when he comes out and all future dlc.

just an awesome game

Hah, and here I thought I was the only one.

So, it sounds like the majority of us feel the same way; asking me to invest $100 over the life of a game is just absurd.

I love MK9, and I would have happily paid for a nice DLC pack with some new chars, stages, costumes, etc.. I probably would have even gone $15-20 for it, but I'm not going to be nickel and dimed for the next year and end up losing $200 into a game I barely play anymore.

It kinda annoys me. I know the gaming landscape has changed, and I do want to support developers as thier profit margins are slimming, but it's starting to feel more and more like people are leaving out content that would have been included in the past and then charging me the cost of another game to get it in there...

First off Halo has never DLCed its audicience to death, even if they did though, shooters give you the best return on investment from a DLC perspective. Even the new COD DLC scheme I harp on is worth it.

$15 gives me 4 MP maps and 1 zombie map. I can easily get 6+ hours of entertainment off of the one zombie map and 20+ on the 4 new MP maps. 26 hours of entertainment for $15, hmmm thats a no brainer.

Now that does not apply to everyone and none of this is mandatory. If you enjoy a game and you want more from said game, than by all means release a bunch of DLC and give me what I want. Fallout 3 released a lot of DLC and even though I knew it would eventually get a GOTY edition with it all, I still bought each one day and date. That game cost me a lot but it was well worth it to me.

Halo 2 = 4 map packs in 2 years and each one became free after 1-2 months of release.

Halo 3 = 4 map packs in 3 years

Halo Reach = 2 map packs in 10 months

Yea, we have been nickeled and dimed and DLCed to death.

Go hide under your bridge Kammy, oh wait here are my baseless claims and why are there facts to go along with them. Shouldnt that mean they arent baseless? Oh wait its just Kammys BS :p
