I have been using the Panasonic SA-XR55 the little brother of the unit that you are asking about since July..I can only say that the sound quality in my 5.1 surround setup is awesome...Very impressive playing music too wether from CD or FM radio,or audio cable stations...As I do not route my video through the receiver I cannot comment on that performance, however audio from all sources is excellant.

If you do a Google search with either of these two receivers you will find some people much more qualified than myself giving them big thumbs up...The Panasonic all digital receivers have a very good reputation and are called "Giant Killers" in some reviews..If the model that you are looking at has the features that you need I feel you will be more than satisfied with the sound...I have mine teamed up with Aperion speakers. Not only very musical, but if you like Very,Very Loud ! ! ..

I have the Panny XR55, great piece. Paid $229 on amazon with free shipping. Sound is very neutral. Lots of power. If you must have the HDMI switching, then the XR70 is the one...
