HD Xvid to original .ts files

Hi folks

I've got a few films that have been encoded into HD Xvid format with 5.1 sound. Can anyone help me in converting these back to their original .ts files in 1080i?
What software would I need?

Cheers :)

Try this program. I haven't used this for your format change but it's worth a try.

If they're in Xvid format, then that's not really HD at all. What it means when files say something like blahblah.hd.xvid.avi is that the original source was HD, but the files were compressed to Xvid, which is just one of many codecs used to create AVI files.

They look really good, but they are definitely not technically HD anymore. They are compressed a lot, so any attempt to get them back to full HD ".ts" format will probably lose a fair amount of quality.

Thanks for the help guys. Project x won't do it, unfortunately :(

It is possible, but not worth the trouble, because it will not increase the quality and it will take a lot more storage... :(

It's difficult to get a good Xvid/H.264 HD video but it's not impossible. Actually Xvid is alone MPEG4-ASP codec that permit you give an excelent quality for HD. And of course you must be a proffesional to be enable to do that. There is no software to do it automaticly. Only extremal settings will give good quality.
I know only one excelent H.264 codec that give a good quality for HD. Nero H.264 with very exrtemal settings + some personal skills
There will be a new version in this month - Nero H.264 High Profile with really extreme quality. Quick Time 7 H.264 is very week for HD (not even close to be best).

Last Xvid 1.1(prebeta3) version has 2-2,25 times of MPEG compresion rate. Today fast developing H.264 already has 2.25-2.5 of MPEG compresion rate.
If compress from original source 1920p (raw , losseless,) Mpeg 18 Mbit/s (HD-DVD)= Xvid 9-8 Mbit/s (DVD-9) = H.264 7 - 8 Mbit/s. All numbers are prooved by visual and metrics test.

I see some short video in raw to test MPEG2, Xvid, H.264.

Transcode MPEG-2->Xvid is lossy(but almost has not visual effect if to do exrtemal compresion) and Xvid->Mpeg-2 is bad idea.
