Most of you know that Dish has dropped us HD absolute customers and moved us to a higher tier which cost more and doesn't have all the stations we had before the change.
So today I spend 1/2 hour trying to get a supervisor. All I could do was cancel my account and they now want me to pay to ship their equipment back Receiver, LNB and remote, or pay $450 to keep it. So now I have to climb up on the roof to remove the LNB.
They basically can do anything they want and we can only pay. Dish sucks. Is this even legal?

Sorry about the loss of HD Absolute. It was a great package that we could no longer offer due to contract requirements. There would be a charge of $15 per shipping label that DISH will provide you. If your LNB is on your roof you can PM your account number and I will check into that for you.

The supervisor I talked to said that they canceled it because not enough people had that package. DUH! Dish only offered it a few months as a way to get people subscribed to HD. As soon as I signed up Dish canceled all the Voom channels. I can get the LNB and dish off the roof and patch the holes the installer drilled in the roof through the shingles also.
If you work for dish, thank you for chiming in, you were faster than the phone. It took 3 tries to get to a supervisor the 2nd time I got disconnected when they were transferring me after waiting 15 min.
If EVER someone can offer Al La Cart stations we will all be better off. We watch maybe 5 channels and have to pay $60 to get those and one DIY channel isn't even available in HD but is in a high tier package.

Wow. So what is the deal here? I honestly didn't know that Absolute was being dropped, and I have to echo the OP's statement that Absolute was offered for about 2 minutes and by the time most people decided to come on board it was gone. I noticed my bill went up for this month, and I just got a letter that said I need to upgrade my equipment. I guess I have to call, but I suspect that I won't be happy. Before I switched to Dish, I gave Direct a chance to keep my business, they didn't want to. I'll give Dish a chance too, but from this post it sounds like they'd rather drop people.

Dish charges to send their own equipment back now??? When I cancelled back in July and went with DTV, they sent me boxes with Fedex labels and didn't charge me anything. They did not want the dish back, just the LNB. And said if I had issues getting the LNB off, it wasn't a big deal.

If you decide to go with DTV for any reason.... My installer used the same dish mount point, so he removed my old dish for me and the existing coax going to the dish. Not saying your installer will do the same, but can't hurt to ask if you have a good DTV line of site from that point.

My son dropped Direct and went with cable and they sent him a prepaid label, it seems Dish is the only one charging the customer to send their equipment back. My neighbor had to sign a 3 year contract to get Dish now he wants to drop them and is stuck with 2 more years.

Better start reading those contracts soon you will signing away your first born if you cancel.

I already have the Direct Dish up and operating I installed it myself When the weather was good, but I'm not going to go back up and remove the dish LNB until the weather clears up because the installer drilled through my shingles to install the dish and I have to fill the holes.

I will say one thing looking at the 2 side by side I think Direct has the best HD picture and Dish the best SD picture. I also like the Direct DVR much better than the Dish one. I also have 2 HD Tivo boxes,

My sub did not run out until the 11th. I was copying my movies off my external HD and they shut down my external HD the day I canceled and said they will refund the difference (4 days), they didn't even give me a chance to get the movies copied to DVD. It was like they were mad I dropped them and shut me down as fast as they could.
On the other hand I ordered a new Tivo and they give me 20 days to copy my movies from one to another. Dish sucks.

The LNB can be removed from the dish (usually just a couple screws and the coax) so you could take it off while leaving the Dish up. But if it is a safety issues due to ice and stuff, I would assume Dish would be understaning in that and give you a 3 month delay in shipping that back, if they would even want it back at all. But assume is the key.

Its no real biggie for me but I'm sure it is for other people. I want the dish down because I mounted the Direct Dish next to it. I just got the impression that they seemed to be "pi$$ed) that I dumped them and were not very nice about it. Since I had 3 days left on my last payment I called and asked if they could turn my external drive back on untill my last payment ran out and the guy said I was no longer in the system as being turned off he also said he has received a lot of complaints about people loosing HD absolute. In 5 years all satellite will most likely be over $100 per month. I could probley go back to the BUD and be cheaper.
Big Ugly Dish for those not old enough to remember them.
