My dish turned into a pumpkin at midnight

Just wanted to say goodbye to the Dish Forum and thank everyone that's still around for their help over the last couple of years and all of the interesting and helpful information made available.

My dish went dark at midnight (actually not completely true, I noticed there are still some channels available on it?). Anyway, as a former Absolute sub, when I switched to another package it was just not the same. I changed to get my RSNs for the football season and very disappointed in the way they are handled by Dish and for sports in general. Since my main reason for having sat/cable is sports, Dish is just not the best choice, unfortunately, because other than that my experience was quite pleasant and I will surely miss my 722. What I won't miss is paying ever increasing prices for a lot of crap I don't want.

I analyzed my usage and other than sports (mainly college football), most of what I watch is OTA or available free on the internet. So, I decided to pull the plug. I'll have to deal with Comcast this fall (only plan on 6 mos during the football season) but they have all the sports channels I want and as long as I only have to pay for 6 months out of the year I'm still saving a lot and getting all I need. I'll never sign another contract unless there is no other option or it's such a great deal it can't be passed up (yeah, lol). I want to thank Dish for the Absolute package though, as it was that great deal while it lasted and probably got too many of us completely spoiled with the value (a term not usually associated with sat/cable).

Well, I haven't been looking at my bill and had to sign back on here to see if I could find any info before I called Dish to complain. I also had (yes, HAD) absolute for the last several years now. My current bill is higher and thought maybe one of the kids used ppv and didn't tell me. I checked and no, Dish changed my plan. Unbelievable, they wrote me some credits, after the monthly credits expire I will be paying about $30 a month more than I had been. Again, all without any notice that I saw. What happened to this company? Direct has been trying to get me back for years, same with Comcast. I swore I'd never go back. With Fios still 1 year or more away here, I don't know what I will do. OTA, net, blockbuster and netflix may be the way to go though. :mad:

I understand that losing the DISH Absolute package was not so great. I also understand that seeing the bill change is never good, especially when it goes up. We did proactively communicate that the packages were being eliminated and offer credits to help "adjust". More then anything I would like to help out. If you have not switched providers yet I may be able to help out. Sorry I did not catch this thread sooner. There are other similar packages still available. If you could PM me the phone number on the account, and the channels that are a "must have" I may be able to get you a great deal on the programming you have come to enjoy.

Add me to the list of people who's Dish will be going away in the next week or so. I just had a baby and reconfigured my hom's tv setups. Added two TVs, one HD and one SD. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that it was going to cost me an additional $100 setup and $17/month for the second 722 reciever. Take that along with the rate increase, and I would be paying $8 more per month by sticking with Dish instead of DirecTV that would also include Whole Home DVR. Not to mention I won't have to jump up another package level in the fall just to get Versus, since DirecTV was smart enough to put it in the Choice Xtra package. I just can't find a reason to pay $8-$15/month more for less HDTV service, fewer channels and an inferior DVR setup. Sorry Dish, it's been a nice five years, but it's time to go.
