HD Locals disappeared

I am receiving HD channels for years now but although HD locals are available in my area (Pittsburgh) I couldn't receive them because my dish could not be pointed to the satellite that broadcasts HD locals, as per two different Dish Network installers. That was a few years ago, so I learned to live with it and installed an OTA to catch the local networks in HD.

Fast forward to earlier this week, I realized that I am receiving HD locals via Dish and not via the OTA. I said, that's great, and enjoyed a couple of nights of great TV experience. This evening however, it is all back to the way it was before. My HD locals are received by the OTA and the HD locals from Dish have disappeared.

Am I able to receive them now (perhaps they moved the channels to another SAT that I already am pointed to? )
In that case do I need to do something to purchase the locals? If that's the case why was I receiving them for a few days and not now? Perhaps it was a free offer?

Please advise, I gotta watch my STEELERS on Sunday! (Superbowl Emergency) OTA works but not great.

Your locals should be free now. They started that about a year ago. Call or do a chat and get them activated again.

First, though, make sure you're looking at ALL SUB list in the guide unless you had added them to your Favorites list.

You need to upgrade your dish antenna. It sounds like you are currently using two dishes, one pointing at 110 and 119 and the other looking at 61.5. The Pittsburgh HD locals are on both 77 and 129. Last Sunday Dish Network had a problem with the satellite at 77 and temporally moved the Pittsburg channels over to 61.5. Friday afternoon they moved the channels back to 77.

Ok, that makes a lot of sense then. I do have two dishes, one pointing to 61.5 and one to 110 and 119 just as you described. The reason I haven't upgraded the dish antenna is that currently the one pointing to 110 and 119 is on a pole and according to the installer last year the new one could not be installed on a pole being somewhat larger. I don't remember what it was called. He had suggested to install on the roof but I've had bad experience in the past (very windy in my area during the winter and an old dish I had, damaged the roof slightly)

Anyway, thanks for your reply. I will have to call in and see what they can do.

One last question: Where can I obtain a channel listing by satellite? I am thinking that the one I have pointing at 61.5 may be changed to point to 77, but I would like to see what channels if any I will be missing. I currently receive a Greek channel package which I think is part of the 61.5?

Over at satelliteguys (dot) us. Go into the forums and click “the list” tab at the top of the page. There is nothing on 77 except local HD.

It sounds to me a dish upgrade/migration may be in order. If you need assistance with upgrading your dish you can PM me a phone number and I can see what options are available for you. Usually I can get it taken care of pretty easily. Thanks ahead of time for the opportunity to help you!

You can get one antenna by using the Eastern Arc antenna setup.

However, the signals are slightly weaker than the dual antenna setup.
