LCD vs CRT monitor which one is best?

They said LCD better than CRT but when i saw wmvdh they demon on LCD at store it seem that image not sharp as CRT at all and got nallow angel to view.
I'm interested SONY LCD monitor 17"(DVI) but not sure if it better than my old CRT.

For view HD clip and movie.....
Actually i need 1280x1024 monitor, my monitor just 15"(1024x768) and i don't have more space for 17" CRT, LCD 17" is the choice.
