Just got the Sony KDF-E42A10. I would like to upgrade the sound system for a reasonable price. Have a Koss PS dvd player. The room is about 12' wide X 14' long. Like to have a minimum amount of speakers and only have them near the TV.
I am budgeting about $200 - $250. Looked at the one-piece speaker system for $200, The Zvox 315 Sound console.
Any suggestions? I am looking for a better sound system such as a Dolby 5.1 .

Give up the idea of 'synthesized' surround from only a couple speakers... doesn't work well, only get a weak effect when seated in the sweet spot. Basically, you need at least 4 real speakers in the corners of your room for real surround. The 'center' is optional, it can be faked with the corners or you can use the speakers in your TV for 'center'. The subwoofer is optional, but really improves sound effects like thunder & earthquakes... it can be put out of sight, since low tones aren't directional.

Make sure any system you buy has at LEAST 2 digital audio inputs available... true surround can ONLY be carried over an SPDIF connection.
