alright so i bought a hd tv and i wanted to get a pretty decent sound system for it. i wanted it for sports on cable/abc/espn. im getting digital signals for abc/espn and a bunch of other channels.

so i bought this surround sound system from best buy for 80 bucks.

im not sure if i can use this for cable tv. i was reading my book i got for the tv and it says i need to plug a coaxial cable into the digital audio output onto the tv and plug it into a coaxial digital input on the av amplifier. on the surround sound i got, it only has a coaxial output...no input. any help will be helpful cause i want this system to work on my cable....and if anyone knows if this thing is only met for dvd, lemme know

thank you

If you have a cablebox then connect the coaxial/optical to the receiver. Also a good idea to connect the L/R rca jacks to the Tv. If your using a cablecard connect the coaxial/optical from the tv to your receiver. Also a good idea to connect the L/R rca jacks to the receiver from the tv.

The problem is he CAN'T connect SPDIF because that HTIB doesn't have any digital audio inputs. And since DD 5.1 or DTS surround REQUIRE a digital connection, he's out of luck... only ProLogic psuedosurround, like with analog TV, can be sent over the analog stereo pair.

The only solution here is to return this system. Any surround system meant to be used with external surround sources (like HD STB) MUST have SPDIF digital audio inputs, at LEAST one and preferably two...

You might also consider the practicality of buying a system with a built in SD DVD player... since HD DVD will be available shortly & an 'all in one' system isn't upgradable.
