DVI to Sharp Aquos LCD

I am having an issue connecting my PC to a 32 Sharp Aquos LCD (LC-G5C32U). I am using a DVI cable from my PC (ATI x300 Catalyst Driver 8.162.0.0) to the DVI input on the LCD. I have the TV set to Digital PC input connection. The display works fine (and looks great) if I boot up the PC with the TV On. However, if I turn the TV off and then power back on, the TV does not detect the PC signal. No matter what I try (changing inputs, changing the PC Input type, etc.), I cannot get the TV to recognize the PC signal. The only way to get the TV to see the PC signal is to reboot the PC with the TV on and set to the right input or if I use Remote Desktop to access the PC. When I logon to the PC with Remote Desktop, it must do some type of display reset and the TV can then see the signal.

Anyone see anything like this before? I am new to this stuff and am not even sure where the problem is - the TV, the PC, the video card, the cable, etc. Any help is appreciated.

Do you get an error message that says "HDCP" ?

No, no message of any kind. When I turn on the LCD, I just see a black screen. If reboot the PC, the TV detects the signal and, from that point, works great until I turn off the TV.

I talked with Sharp support and they told me that this is just how DVI connections work. The computer initiates a handshake with the display. When the TV is turned off, that connection is lost and the handshake has to be re-initiated. The only way to do this is to reboot, disabe/enable the display, or unplug/plug in the dvi cable.

Can this be accurate? If so, is this just a limitation with the particular TV I have or do all LCDs suffer from this limitation?

I believe that is a Sharp issue. I know many other people with LCDTVs that don't have problems. The Sharp has VGA right? have you tried using a custom 720p resolution with your PC connected via VGA? it shoulnd't suffer from the dropout issues you have.

Turned out to be the video card. I replaced the ATI x300 with a gforce 6600GT and the problem no longer occurred. I guess Sharp support just made something up to get me off the phone :).

No, Sharp was right... DVI, or other intelligent connections, ask the display for it's properties at startup. No answer = no display. Apparently, the NVidia card recognizes the TV being turned on & does a reset, while the ATI only looks for it at boot.

I just solved this problem with my ATI card by updating the driver. Looks like ATI has figured out they had a problem and fixed it.
