Time to buy a newer dvd player?

I have an Elite DV05 dvd player that is output to a Sony 42" ED plasma. I am very happy with the picture and sound. It is about 7 or 8 years since I bought it. Would there be any benefit in buying a newer player. Has there been a significant change in technology? The Elite is not progressive scan, but the Sony has an excellant deinterlacing chip. The Sony is not HDCP compliant, but does have DVI. Would a player that has DVI out make a huge difference in PQ? It would have to be a non-HDCP player like the Oppo.

Thank you very much.

panasonic s77 (upconvert via HDMI) and F87 (5 disc changer with DVD audio) will be good dvd players, panny dvd recorder will also be good player also beside it will record on DVD RAM and other formats. all these players have very good quality.

Panasonic DVD players have good PQ, but correct me if I am wrong, they ARE HDCP compliant and his plasma's DVI connection IS NOT, so he would have to connect it through component and lose any upscaling.

He could also check out the NeuNeo 2085 player which is also without the HDCP like the Oppo.

My Denon is several years old but I am very pleased with the picture & sound, just like you seem to be with your player. If it aint broke, dont fix it.

My suggestion would be to continue being pleased with what you have until a HD winner is determined (and the prices come down), then make a change.

Your display is 480 lines. Why scale up a 480 line signal just to scale it down again?
