Nope not even close to being able to mention a price range,as far as a time I will say next year but that is all the further I care to commit.Actually the way E* is I'm not even comfortable saying that . As far as upgrading the 811,sorry no beans, there are NO dish network recievers that are mpeg 4 that are currently on the market.

In a Charlie Chat back around February/March it was stated that November/December they were expecting to release info about the new mpeg4 receivers. However in this month's Tech Forum nothing was mentioned so that leads me to believe that sometime in early 2006 at the very least. I would expect the price to be somewhat comparable to current models but that just speculation as there's no real information as to features these units will have (apart from having mpeg4 decoders chips of course).

What about us poor slobs that are wanting to buy a new hd receiver from DN? Will they be obsolete in 6 months and will we have to shuck out another 600.00?

I bought my 921 last December just 1 month before they started talking about mpeg4.

My guess is, if you're already subscribed to HD and they change it to mpeg4 then they would bare the burdon of replacement cost, else risk loosing customers or forcing customers to downgrade.

If they introduce new HD programming they'll most likely offer an incentive to existing HD customers where newcomers would most likely pay full cost. It could even be that just HD locals are affected and since I get mine for free who cares.

This is just speculation no offical anouncement has been made. But Charlie Ergen did say, "It would be as painless as possible".

The MPEG4 receivers have been out for over a month now. Look or call for a 622, 211 or 411. Those are the only MPEG4 receivers currently available.

If you want to buy it, go to:

www.dishstore.net or
www.sadoun.com or
