Would those of you that receive E* programming, both hd & sd, comment on how the sd programs look on your hd set (what type)? I would like to upgrade my E* setup to the 942 but am afraid of the picture quality of the non hd content. I also wonder about my locals that I receive via antenna, what their quality would be like in hd. Would the ota hd be better/worse/the same as E* hd? Sorry for the lame questions, but none of the Best Buys, HH Gregg, or Circuit City have a very good display for their hd porducts.

I have the 921 and both HD and SD quality from either component, DVI or HDMI (for the 942) is great. It will vary depending on the channel and source of the program but potentially excellent. Digital OTA is especially good. My local Fox station sends 720p all the time so even when a program is upconverted from SD it looks better than any other SD channel. Obviously HD is supurb and after viewing it for hours and then going back to SD programming is somewhat of a let down. There are some disappointments however with certain HD channels that frequently show upconverted material or programs created from lower resolution sources. Examples TNT-HD and ESPN-HD frequently upconvert also some Voom channels show old programs that don't really benefit the HD capabilities except for the wide format.

I want to get HD broadcasts and either the 921 or the 942 receivers and a HD plasma tv also but am hesitating because I'm afraid my SD channels will look terrible on a High definition plasma monitor. From the previous post am I led to believe that there is a way not to have grainy SD on a HD plasma monitor? Is there a solution to this problem? Can you explain?

The SD quality via comp or DVI cable is BAD, but since its a two tuner, i use composite cables from the second tuner for all SD programming and the quality is great, the 942 is set up to give you the same SD programming on 2 different TVs. So I have a coax ran to the second TV and the composite to the first for SD programming, but SD programming from the HD tuner was just plain bad. so I recommend this set up for good SD PQ

how will the SD signal from a 921(or a 942) look on a plasma tv such as panasonic's TH-37PX50U which has a native resolution of 1024 x 768?

All fixed pixel displays such as LCDs, Plasmas, DLPs, etc always display in their native resolution. Lower resolution is unconverted to fit the native resolution of the HD set therefore creating some artifacts or slight pixel distortion. There's no way to eliminate it. The larger the screen the more noticable the effect. The best way to minimize this to choose the highest relsolution display so that you have the smallest pixel pitch. For an example is two displays both have 1920 x 1080 pixels but display is 45 inches while the other is 70 inches you'll notice the pixels more with the larger display. CRTs don't have this problem as much because beam prints the correct number of pixels during the scan.

You actually change inputs - depending upon on what you are watching? Is that what you are saying? You also have a 2nd tv connected by coax - & how is that picture? I guess that the 2nd tv is not hd. Are all of the outputs active all the time with the 942?
