Just bought this TV from Walmart because they didn't have any of the Sharp 42" that they had advertised. Immediately after I told my brother I got a Philips, he said it wasn't a good deal. What do you guys think? Is Philips that bad?? Thanks!

Try turning the sharpness down to zero. Most HDTVs should be set to zero, except Panasonic models made from 2008 to present use 50 as the neutralspelling position/setting.

I turned my sharpness to 0 and is still naturally sharp without any artifacts, just a smooth looking picture.

Not necessarily bad but not like the actual Philips sold overseas. Philips does not make TV's for the US market but have a 2nd or 3rd tier manufacturer make them (Funai) and put the Philips name on them. Similar to Magnavox and Sylvania which are both made by Funai as well (cheap). Inexpensive and not comparable to the other Brand names like Sony, Sharp, Samsung, Toshiba, Panasonic, etc.

As the others said turn the sharpness down to 0 and that should nake things a bit better.

Hope this helps.
