samsungs bad for video games?

i'm looking for a 26" tv mainly for playing wii and dvd's, and based off of everything i can find online samsung's ln26b360 seems to be the best testing and best reviewed in my price range. the problem is that i've read samsungs have some of the worst lag when playing video games, with one reviewer complaining about it even with game mode on; is there anyone here who's used a samsung in this size/price range for games who can say if lag is a problem for them?

I looked at the model you looked at and I also looked at the Toshiba 26AV52R/26AV502R and the Toshiba had better blacks and better viewing angles as well. I would check that model out before deciding. ;)

With all the LCD manufacturers adding these motion enhancement technologies I'm not surprised, these LCDs with all these enhancements repeat serveral frames per second to help make LCDs look smoother. In the end they hurt gamers, and no there's no way to turn of 120Hz and 240Hz off either. This is why when I see a post for someone wanting opinions for a gaming LCD HDTV I don't bother posting at all.

I don't see LCD HDTVs in the future unless these motion enhancement technologies get lost and fast!

plasmas are too big and cost a little more than i want to spend. i was reading about OLED today and that sounds like it'll be great, but i don't really want to wait five years for a new tv, so i've got to compromise. :(

thanks, i've been looking at the toshiba too. last time i was at the store i compared them but didn't really know what to look for, so i couldn't say if one was better; i'll pay more attention next time. the LG was also a candidate until i found out it has no analog audio out...

I agree, the Toshiba would be much better suited to your needs.

i do notice that toshiba advertises it's game mode right up front, as if it's a bigger consideration to them than it seems to be with samsung. i've done all i can do online, so to the store i go. thanks very much for the input

i compared the two today, and i'm sorry to say that i was underwhelmed with the toshiba. my first impression was that it's picture was blotchy, with the screen looking like it was covered in compression artifacts. there was motion blur even when objects weren't moving particularly fast, and aside from blur objects seemed to distort strangely while moving (in a video of people clapping hands, fingertips seemed square shaped). the black levels were darker than the samsung, but there was no detail to dark objects. looking at someone with black hair, for instance, you'd only see a jet black mass on their head with no individual strands visible.

the store had several hd channels to flip between and with all of them the samsung was noticeably clearer with no obvious motion issues. while the toshiba had stronger color it also seemed to have a strange green tint that none of the other tv's had, and i made sure it's settings weren't off. i've just got to hope that the samsung isn't as laggy as i've heard; again, if anyone else has used a samsung for games, it'd help a lot to hear from them. thanks again

It sounds like that store you checked the Toshiba out in had a bad connection going to it. I compared them myself a couple of months ago and saw none of that.

That said the Samsung LCDs are very nice and until recently I rated them the best LCDs out there. Make sure you get a model that allows you to turn of their DNIe processing as this is what likely gives the Samsungs the lag.

I have a 46' Samsung LCD with 120hz and there's an option for me to turn off the 120hz. I've been playing games with my Samsung and it is awesome. I've had no problems playing games on it. I love it.

AFAIK, you cannot turn off the 120Hz processing, but you can turn off the processing of the "enhancements" like interpolation (smoothing, etc).
