Hi, I have been going and researching tv's for like the past year lol and I was going to go with a Panny g10 42 inch for my bedroom but for some reason im feeling hesitant to buy a plasma so I looked for some LCD's. So far I have narrowed it down to the sony w5100 and the sony xbr7, and I would like to know which is better, I will be using this tv for mostly ps3 gaming, and rest TV watching(SD for now untill maybe later I can upgrade to HD Dish) including a lot of football and very very little movie watching. My room has 2 large windows and I do some watching during the day and at night. Thanks in advance, hopefully some of you guys can help make my decision easier. Or even suggest a Tv in the same price range that is better than those 2 but I would still like to know which of the above two is best, thanks again. [/B][/B]

Just from reading, I believe the Toshiba Regza is most often the LCD recommendation here.

The problem with LCD HDTVs is not only the motion blurr, but the processing time lag between each frame. Frames are being repeated 4-8 times, it's hard to find an LCD HDTV that has quick response times!

From your posted watching requirements a plasma would be a MUCH better solution...

Plasma is the better choice in a bedroom IMO. Especially for a bedroom where more watching would be likely done with the lights out. That is hwere the superior blacks of plasma really show themselves. If you are concerned about burn-in and such also note that the PS3 has a screen saver/dimming mode and auto off function as well if there is no activity for a pre-set time period too.
I just watched a movie with a lot of dark scenes in my bedroom on my 47" 1080p LCD and all I could see was this gray haze and low detail when the hwole screen is a dark one. Night & day difference to my plasma, and why my next display will be to replace the bedroom LCD with a plasma.

Thanks for the replies, when I was thinking about getting the plasma, I had heard about phosphor trailing for video games and that it made some games unplayable. Also I read that you have to break in a plasma for like 300 hours and should not play any games or leave tickers on the screen(which is alot since I watch ESPN)I dont really want to leave my TV on for 300 hours straight and go thru that hassle. Also when my room is bright during the day, wont plasma black levels go down much? Is LCD really that bad compared to plasmas? Sorry for all that but one more question, I know that plasma generate more heat, so will that effect a room much, as in temperature change lol.

Those are all mostly either myths or old news now.
My 1080p 50" plasma gives off less heat than my 1080p 47" LCD in my bedroom does. Breaking in the plasma is not difficult as all you have to do is leave contrast at 50% during this time and avoid the black bars when possible (keep it under 40% of the time).
During the first 200 hours I REALLY had to try to see the green phosphor trails and it was only possible when it had a contrasting scene (dark & light in the scene) AND you have to be moving the view so fast that it would give you a headache. It is not a real world problem IMO. It also doesn't happen at all with me after a couple hundred hours with games at all even if I try to see it by moving the view so fast it gives me a headache. The LCD fast motion smear is a much bigger problem from my personal experience with both games and with movies, etc..
My plasma is over 1,000x faster with screen speed compared to ANY 120/240Hz LCD and that improves my game play with sports & shooting games. I do better now in games than I did with both my DLP & LCD before the plasma.

The sound sucks with most TV's AS IT ALWAYS HAS. So now you expect your HD TV to be a HD audio receiver as well? That IS why they make surround sound systems. Of course if you want that kind of sound from your TV you can get better but it will cost a lot.

glad you said most, because the two sony lcd tv's i have owned, one i still have, have far superior sound than the panny
panny isnt alone in this, but the sound is so bad you simply cant use the speakers that come with the tv unless you are willing to have all the bass turned completely off
ridiculous
if sony can do it, the rest of them can, they choose not to so as to save $10 or so...

But even with the Sony, if a true 5.1 signal is broadcast the dialog gets muddied when playing through stereo, it is the nature of the besat and why so many manufacturers don't attempt to put better sound in their TV's. An unnecessary added expense (and it's not just $10) for engineering, speakers, audio decoding and the like.
Again, that's why surround sound systems are available, to satisfy those wanting more than tinny TV sound.

If you limit the time you spend viewing still images, avoid ultra-bright modes like Vivid, and are extra cautious during the first 100 to 200 hours of the set’s life (the phosphors are most prone to permanent burn-in when they’re new), you shouldn’t experience any problems. Gaming has some still images, do so at your own risk! After the 200 hours you can game without any problems if kept out of Vivid mode.

As they make the HDTVs thinner and thinner the SQ in ALL of them will suffer even Sony on their newer models. You just cannot make speakers smaller and thinner to fit in these supr thin TVs and not give up sound quality unless you are willing to pay big bucks for specialty brands that put much better speakers in them.
