OT: Windows 7... and games?

Yeah it's off topic, but I just finished putting a brand new Seagate Terabyte hard drive in my system and installed windows 7 on a fresh format. So far I'm really liking it. It's clean and responsive. The true type text changes are nice. The start bar looks good, and so far knock on wood after a couple hours of installing stuff back over I haven't hit a single problem.

The ONE con I've found so far is that Windows Mail is HISTORY. I liked it, I thought it was neat clean and responsive. Now you are forced to use Windows LIVE mail which isn't nearly as nice looking. I think I'll need to go "borrow" a copy of outlook from work this week but that's no big deal.

I'm gonna install my games back on next I'll let you guys know if I see an improvement with the update to true 64bit processing. I was using a 32 bit version of Vista on my 6000+ X2 with 4 gigs of corsair. Now it's a 64 bit processor on the same base.

Yeah, I'm running the 64 Bit Ultimate, and it is just so nice. Finally MS gives us an OS that is WORTH paying for.

I am finding it hard to believe that this is an MS OS actually...haha.

It trully is what Vista should have been all along.

I haven't gamed on it yet since reformatting, but with my 4890, and 3dmark 06 with EVERYTHING maxed @ 1920x1080, I get 10680. Which is more than I got with my old 3870's running in crossfire

Been so busy gaming with my PS3, I just have no need as of late to PC game

I'm sure Windows 7 will handle it nicely.

I've been using Windows 7 64 bit for the better part of 6 months. It's a great OS and plays all games I've thrown at it with ease (including all my Steam games).

There's little glitz and glamor added onto Gaming that Vista didn't include, but it still runs them beautifully.

I played DA:O for about an hour last night and I was able to alt-tab in and out of it with no problem. I COULD NOT do that on Vista32. Now I'm not sure if it's the 64bit processor letting me or the fresh format. Either way I'm happy even if I WoNT use half the features.

So far I've throw on DA, Halo, Crysis and they all have worked flawlessly. The only thing that seems to AV every time for me is KOTOR. I won't blame that on Win7 tho since it's like 6 years old.

Check out this this idiot MSNBC journalist from taking a big dump all over Win7 gaming.

He has a couple of valid points about the "Games for Windows" branding and focus on the console market, but for christ sake.

Actually, I'd have to say thats a damn good article. He isn't crapping on Windows 7's ability for gaming, but the actual lack of Games for Windows titles.

I'm not a big fan of the Games for Windows push, but for those that like Xbox Live, and all its junk (gamertags, achievements, friends list) the Games for Windows project is just that.

What this journalist seems to fail to understand is Steam grew legs, and it grew them fast, and now it is running away with what Games for Windows is suppose to be. Why? As he said, of which he doesn't know, the certification process.

Steam doesn't require developers to go through certification and from what I read the Steam 2.0 SDKs are free to developers to use for implementation (it's optional, where as on Games for Windows most of the stuff is mandatory.)

Steam is a way better interface for managing your PC games. It's better than the 360/PS3 method too. Sucks for that journalist, I think he's a PC+360 fan, where Games for Windows would add a link. Following a person's PC games via their Gamertag.

Oh wells. Hoorah for an open system of competition. Steam pwns them all! And It's fucking FREE!

I will Agree Steam is by far the superior solution for downloading games. never having to worry about losing a box or forgetting a CD key makes it even better than buying them in retail stores. I no longer have a shelf full of pretty boxes I don't need. If a game is available on steam I buy it there if that's the format I want, done.

Back to windows 7 though, 3 days in and still working awesome. I'm pleased.
