my first post and my first hd tv . ..my old tube tv had a better picture ..i hope you can help .
so i bought this hd lcd tv ..i mounted it pretty much flush on the wall and i'm trying to avoid putting a hd cable box over or under the tv because of asthetics .......the screen is 5 inches off the wall and i'm trying to keep the clean look ..
right now i have a small digtial cable box.. a motorola dtc700 tucked behind the tv ,which is not visible when sitting and viewing the screen ....please see attached picture
...bottom line ...is there a way for me to get a hd signal to the tv witout putting a cable box over or under the tv ?.....
dvd /blueray player in the adjacent room's closet where i can still change channels on the tv ???????
..or a small converter that will disapear behind the tv
thank you for your help..paul

If your new TV has a built in QAM tuner, you may be able to get your local channels in HD with no box. It depends on if your cable provider encrypts your HD locals.
If your TV has an internal QAM tuner AND a cable card slot, you will be able to get any HD channels available in your package.
If your TV has an internal ATSC tuner, you can install an OTA antenna and pull in your locals in HD.
If none of the above are options, you will need an HD set top box from your cable company.

What able service do you have? If just digital basic, I would connect the coax directly to your TV's QAM tuner. Then do a scan for digital and analog channels and see what you get. You should get all the basic chanels and some in HD (at least your locals). I think the motorola dtc700 is SD only, so I think this is a good option.
You will not be able to get any encrypted channels if you subscribe to any (like HBO) and most of the channels will not be in HD. So if you subscribe to HD service of have HBO and stuff, not a good choice. Only real other option then would be to place your HD STB in the closet whith your other stuff and get a good RF remote like the Harmony 900.

i do get HBO only because it comes with cable provider's digital box ....i also get speed chanel and others that would not be available without the digital cable box ...however speed is not in hd and i feel i'm missing the picture i should be getting
if i do put a hd cable box in a closet in an adjacent room will this remote ..Logitech Harmony 900 Remote Control ..transmit through walls and around corners?
