UN55B6000 or what?!?

Hello,

I am close to pulling the trigger on a 55" UN55B6000. I reviewed the 6000 vs 7000 vs 8000 series.

Basically I couldn't warrant the extra $$ to go to the 8000. 7000 never crossed my mine because it only added widgets to the 6000 series that I would never use.

I plan on using the TV for Movies (in HD), TV viewing (don't care about SD quality, I know how bad it can be), and Gaming (Madden, NBA 2k, etc.).

I currently own a very old Toshiba 57" rear projector. I am concerned with ghosting on the LCD/Plasmas TV's. I can play games and watch HD movies and they look pretty damn good now, my tv supports 1080i, but not 1080p nor 720p. So at 1080i it looks good. I don't want to get a tv that takes a step backwards.

With all that in mind. Is the UN55B6000 a step backwards? Is there a better choice? I'd like to spend less than 2500, prefer around 2k. I found someone selling a UN55B6000 for 1900 locally and I can pick it up. That seems to be a good price so should I do it?

I've heard both stories that this tv is great and that when they got it home, it sucked. So I am a bit worried. I noticed one person here mentioned the "Panasonic TC - P58V10", that's slightly out of my price range, but willing to look at it. Even if I need to wait a few months for the price to drop.

I also don't mind the "reflective"-ness of any tv's. I actually like reflective screens, I prefer them on laptops as they seem to make the colors pop a bit better.

I'd love to hear the thoughts. Will the UN55B6000 not look as good as my old rear projection!??

Thanks
Jeff.

If you are used to the quality of a rear projection TV then plasma is the natural progression. I really don't think you will be happy with any LCD technology for many reasons including motion blur, slower response times (by the thousands), lack of depth, poor black levels, uneven screen lighting, and the list goes on. Do yourself a favor and consider plasma the clearly superior technology which would be more like your are used to with improved black levels, color depth, detail and clarity. IMO any LCD would be taking a step backwards...

Hope this helps.

I agree with L2W and i own both techs along with a DLP also.

CHeck out the P54V10 if the 58" model is too pricy. The 54" should be around $2,000.00.

Guys,

Many thanks!!!! You guys have saved me from making a huge mistake. After reading some reviews, they all pretty much say the same things (better picture than any of the LCD/LED technology out there).

This all makes sense now too, because all the LCD's I've looked at, I've been suspect about because I've noticed that on fast motion they can appear "pixelated", which is why I thought the 120hz would fix that, but I think these plasma's will eliminate that by technology and not by speed (am I right on my thinking)?

Now the question is, is 54" too small. I was planning on going from a 57" (my old rear-proj) to a 55", but now to a 54", hmm. I'll have to go check it out at the store. I guess it won't be too bad though.

Thanks again for helping me make my decision, all the reviews on this tv are just glowing! Makes me feel much better and knowing about the smoothness for both sports and games will fit right in there with me. I can't wait to get this sucker!

Thanks again!!!
Jeff.

I have learned the hard way that plasma is the better technology to go with! Don't have to worry about viewing angles, motion blurr, interpolation and slow response time! Motion interpolation generates intermediate frames that make animation more fluid, but also make things look unnatural and video like! The Panasonic V10 is to die for!! :D
