My mother in law wants to get her BF a HD tv this Xmas and they liked the looks of the LG's, but I told her that I'd help her pick one out.
The very most she wants to spend is $750, and there is a chance that my wife and I can kick in $100 on top of it.
I know that 120hz would be a plus.

I was thinking a Vizio from Walmart would work, but I am open to suggestions.

I still want a Panasonic plasma for myself, but that's out of their budget.

Check out the Black Friday specials that are already starting to be announced by Sears, K-Mart, Walmart, etc. You may find a Panny plasma within her price range. :)

There is the P42X1 that is selling for less much than $750-850.00, but you could also get a P50X1 for that budget range.

I just got a sharp aquos lc40e67un and I love it. It is a 40 inch full 1080p. The cool thing is that the plastic surrounding the screen is black but fades to an orangish red at the bottom. It is supposed to have the vyper drive game mode as well. I just got to figure out how to work it.

I got mine for $607 shipped.

Walmart has their pre-black friday sale starting tomorrow morning...

That Panasonic plasma looks like a killer deal for that price. Am I right?

Let's just hope that theyhave one in stock when she goes.

The link seems to be weird now.
It's a 46" panny plasma 1080p with 600hz, for $788

That is a great price for a 1080p 46" Panasonic plasma. Make sure you are there several hours before they open and get a ticket for it so you get the limited quantity they will be offering it at that price. I have done this before so they should have the tickets, but you MUST get there early by about 2-3 hours based on my prior years experience with this pre-BF sale.

That's a working link.
I am going to one walmart and the mother in law is going to another.
My wife asked if that's something we should get, and I said I have another one in mind. (the 54" V10). Before I could go on, she didn't want to talk about it. lol
She hasn't been open to a new tv ever. I could get this one, or not get a chance at a tv for a while. I also think the 46" may be too small for my 11 foot distance from the wall to the couch. My next tv is probably going to need to last me 10 years, so I want what I want. I don't like to settle (I've been waiting for a long time).
What should I do?

That is the U1 series so it does not have the NeoPDP panel that the S1 & up models have and I believe it does not have the anti-glare screen either. Still nice, but not as nice for this budget model that doesn't have the NeoPDP panel in it.

So is this the best tv for that amount of money?
I don't want to wait in line or my mother in law if I can do better for that price.

I need to call her to let her know if she should go to walmart early in the morning or not.

Thanks!

That IS a great deal even though it is the lowest 1080p model. I am sure your inlaws will love it. You might want the better model as you will more likely see the improvements being more educated about it. Only YOU can make that call though.

If you end up getting two with one being for you, then make sure someone goes with you because they don't let 1 person buy more than 1 of such super sale items.

Like PFC5 said, you have to make that call of what to get for you. I can tell you what I would do. I would wait a bit longer to get the right size for me.
46 inch Panny is a great buy for inlaws. Another choice is Panasonic Viera TC-P42X1 42" Plasma for about $630.00 from many online sellers with free shipping and no tax.

Thanks guys!
She just called, and she doesn't want a "base" model. You just saved us some time waiting in line!
Keep the suggestions coming!

To get a good reliable TV for that price, you will most likely be buying a base model.. Unless you you are going to buy a 32" LCD..

You get what you pay for, fore the most part.. I would do some research and see what features you want and then work from there..
Buying a TV nowadays, is different from buying a TV in the past.. SO many models, Sizes, and features..

I agree with you that there are so many brands now. LG for instance.
Zenith was THE best when I was a kid. Now look at them.

We can spend up to probably $850 maybe $899 (not over $900 lol) for the inlaws tv.
As far as mine goes, I know I want the V10. I need to be confident in my purchase, and I'm confident in what I've read about it. Whether it's a 50" or 54" remains to be seen, but I'd love the 54" after learning the distance ratios and what not.
Like I said, keep me posted. I may have the mother in law see my friends new Vizio 47" 240hz tv. She may like it. Dunno though ;) !!!

Zenith is owned by LG now so it is just a lower end LG which is even worse.
