Samsung UN55N8000

I am looking at getting the Samsung UN55N8000. Does anyone have this LED TV and if so have you found any issues or downfalls with it?

I've heard the LED TVs have problems with viewing angles. If you're sitting off to one side or the other it's gonna look washed out.

The 55(x)8000 model is mediocre at best. It's overpriced, but if you want a "thin" TV, then get it.

What do you plan on doing with the TV (movies, sports, computer use, etc)? What type of room is it going in? Tell us more so we can recommend a good TV for your use.

That is an understatement. At near $3000 for a 55'', that is quite a kick in the groin.

It is a very nice TV though with some growing pains. Some of the issues were fixed in the recent firmware upgrade (the contrast issue being 1). But most of Cnet's cons still ring true.

Expensive; less uniform screen than other LCDs; poor off-angle viewing; lower contrast in dark scenes; shiny screen can cause reflections in bright rooms; benefits of 240Hz difficult to discern; scarce analog video inputs.

Very nice slim look, deep blacks that rival plasma and excellent color reproduction are some of its best features. Just can't swallow the price tag on these just yet. When they come down another 30% or so and fix a couple other bugs, perhaps.

For Samsung, it seems it's either stick with the CCFL LCDs or bite the bullet and get the 8500 series for twice the price. The edge-lit LED LCDs are, in my opinion, garbage for what you pay.

I bought the 50" Samsung Plasma PN50B860 which is just as thin as the Samsung LCD LED's but way cheaper. So far after about 7 weeks with it I am very happy.

And you have one of the best TVs currently sold. The Samsung 860 and the Panasonic V10 are #1 and #2 interchangeably depending on preference, from what I've seen myself and have read in multiple sources.

I was referring to 2009 TVs. Truer words were never spoken though. I have people wanting them like crazy now that they are gone.

I had it for two weeks. It looked awesome it the store and it is for sure the thinest and maybe most impresive looking designed tv I have seen, but that was about it. Once it was home with me I was disapointed. The off angle viewing is the worst out. If I moved one seat on my couch to the right or left the picture changed. It gets washed out very quickly but you can't see it in the store. If you sit right infront of it the picture quality is really good. Blacks are really deep black. The motion blur was to much for me. The 240hz still doesn't do enough. I could see it all the time. With those two poblems I really wasn't happy after spending 3K on it. I returned it for the panasonic plasma V10. I was an anti plasma guy for ever but decided to give it a try and it was 600 less. I'm much happier. I really think you will be disapointed with it. Maybe the 8500 is better but even more money.

Thanks for all the replies. I am basically going to be using it to watch movies I really don't watch TV at all. Right now I have a projector which is nice when it is dark out so the screen has to be a pretty good size like above 55inch.

I would also like to add that if it was THX certified that would be a big plus. I know the UN55B8000 is not but I think having one that is would be a great feature.

For the same price you can get Panasonic TC P58V10 - 58" plasma TV. It is THX certified and much better in many ways (PQ, off angles viewing, motion blur, etc...)

This is the truth there's not one display out there that outperforms the Panasonic V10 other than Pioneer! The Panasonic V10 series is the #1 rated plasma and comes in at your targeted size requirements being 58" inches.
