During the last Winter Olympics I fell in love with this very boring looking sport called Curling, but once you watch it you find out it is a very good sport filled with alot of strategy.
Anyways I just ordered the Sports Pack from DirecTv basically cause they give it to me almost free for a few months. But I was wondering if any of those Northern RSN's show any Curling games??? If so I would love to know.
They show it in Canada as it seems to be pretty big up there, but a no-go down here in the midwest :(
Thanks for any help!!!

I kinda like curling in small doses myself for some reason and watch parts of it during the Winter Games over the last couple of Olympics. They just had the womens Olympic qualifiers on NBC I think a couple weeks ago. Don't hold your breath for a DTV Curling package just yet though. BTW, I recently purchased Wii Winter Olympic Games and curling is 1 of the sports.. Pretty fun if you have a Wii.
Chicks with brooms does it for me...:D Too bad there is not allot of hot curling chicks on yet.

Can you imagine?!?!? They could start a "Lingerie Curling League" like the Lingerie Football League~
That's funny... (but I'd watch!) :haha:

You NEED to find and rent the movie: "Men with brooms." Absolutely hysterical Canadian movie about a "Top Gun-esque" curling team. Leslie Nielson is the old coach figure. Anyway, it's a good movie to watch... Makes me want to watch it again.
I actually "get" curling. I love to watch it. I know it's a tedious sport to a lot of people, but I love to watch it.

It is tedious until you take the time & learn the rules & strategy. Once I kinda figured out what they were doing I loved watching it more than any other Olympic sport. Here in Ohio it came on TV at about 3-4 AM during the Olympics but I would get up around 4am just to watch it every morning, so yes I love to watch Curling!

We DVR'd the matches. Strategy is fascinating in curling. My wife and I talked about going to a free curling clinic in one place we lived, but we moved before the classes. I really regret not getting to try it out.

Growing up in north central North Dakota, we had a curling rink about 60 miles from the farm and got to go there about two times a year. At the start of the curling season and at the end of it. More or less a bowling alley on ice. Me father would get schnokered on schnapps and warm wine while us kids would go ice skating. The ice skating was a treat for a couple of reasons. Number one, it was inside,,and number two was we didn't have to shovel a path in the snow just to skate. The slough at home usually froze over in mid to late October and was usually snowed over by mid November, so we had about a month of non-shovel skate days. Come to think of it,,the old slough don't freeze over like it used to. Anyway, the rink was state of the art. A steel quonset with a bar in one corner, a coal burner, a line of benches down one wall and a row of old lights dangling from the ceiling. All bottomed with a foot of ruddy ice (no Zamboni), rough for skating but they did keep the curling lanes shaved with an old G John Deere and a farmhand bucket. They followed the shaving with a fine spray from the local firehouse single pumper, which pretty much froze before it hit the ice. All in all,,,good memories on what we did for entertainment during the chilly months.

Yes. In fact in the movie, there's a guy who is apparently famous in Canada who does a "spin-o-rama" delivery where he does a complete 360 on the ice just before letting go of the rock. It's pretty cool to watch.
I'm just plain amazed at the precision that these people have with these rocks on the ice. It's amazing to watch.

I remember seeing some old timer way back when, who would release the stone with a huge spin on it, and it would creep down the ice, and curl right around a stone & stop in the bullseye (or very close). It was very much like one of those bowlers with the big sweeping curve, except with a curling stone!
I tried looking on Youtube, but couldn't find anything like what I remember seeing before, but I did see one or two that reference that "spin-o-rama" move you mentioned, and one that has some sort of curling-mascot pulling it off pretty well!!

the guys name is Jeff Stoughton. The youtube videos I saw do not do it justice. It's incredible to watch him and see how fluid he is when he does it.
Check out the men with brooms trailer on Youtube. You'll get an idea of what it's about. Just remember, it's Canadian, so it has a decidedly Canadian sense of humor.
