My Sony KDL46V5100 vs Vizio 40"

Tell my why my father in law's VIZIO picture is a lot BETTER than my picture in HDTV. Lines on football field are fuzzy, tight shots are good, but whenever i see the VIZIO it is very, very clear versus my brand new sony. Vizio was purchased at Costco.

I thought the V series was a decent level Sony where the lines, HDTV crispness, would be apparent. it appears not. Do i need to calibrate it better? default settings not enough? do i have to change cables?

please let me know

A calibration would seem to be in order but what is the source? Are you both using the same service/provider?

same service provider. Is Vizio just a better picture but a lower quality in terms of durability?

More likely that the Vizio was using optimum settings while the Sony was not. All these settings interact with each other so when you change one it effects the other settings and they need to be readjusted. This is why we tell people to get a calibration disc. ;)

The cal disc helps tune it the settings and the order to do them in.
