Dish Network or Direct TV over cable?

I was talking to my father the other day, and he was paying his cable bill at the time, $120.00!!! I think it is ridiculous, but, I wanted to ask the experts here, what a similar package would cost with the big 2 dish services.

They have the digital package, and HD ( just bought a 47" HD tv )
Standard channels, TBS, TNT, Nat Geo, ESPN, ESPN2, Fox Sports, etc etc.. and also have ALMOST all of the movie channels, HBO, Showtime, Cinemax and TMC ( No Starz ) Also, have 3 regular digital boxes, other than their 1 HD box. ( they will need only 1 HD receiver with Dish, and 3 regular receivers )

I was wondering if anyone with a similar package on a Dish plan could let me know what they could expect to pay if they switched. I went to the Direct tv and dish network sites, but to me, they are a PITA to navigate, and get info.

Thanks in advance !!

Satellite offers more channels for less price, plain and simple. Usually better picture quality as well...

You also have to compare what you get. In my area the cable system only has about 35 HD channels; with Dish I get over 90. The cable DVR only holds 20 hours of HD; the Dish DVR around 50 hours. I have the "everything" package, with all premium channels, two dual room HD DVRs and two additional HD receivers and the total bill is about $135. This is about the same price as cable in my area, but I get more than double the number of HD channels and the DVRs are much better than the ones provided by the cable company. The cable company does have more video on demand.
