katf1sh 11-01-2009, 09:05 PM i was one of those guys who has been looking at led lcd tv's for 3 months now..i was ready to buy the LG 47 led lcd tv when it went on sale again..

since this is my first hd tv i also needed a blue ray player..and i was stuck buying from BB cause i have a CC with them..
walked on friday the 30th and the 50s1 with a panasonic BR player together for 1099.00 plus tax...for less than 1200.00 i walked out with both!!!!
called direct tv friday night..had the install set-up for sunday (today) at noon..guy showed up took almost 2 hours and i was on my way to high def eagles watching heaven!
rented EARTH on blu ray watched nascar and now the phillies......
all i can say is those of you who think lcd or led look good...look again! at home in my house i can't imagine a tv with a better picture! it went above and beyond anything i can imagine...
the 50s1 is a perfect fit in our house and it has an amazing picture!

jackslap 11-01-2009, 09:21 PM Funny how just a couple days on this site and they have everyone re-thinking an LCD decision. Either these dudes here REALLY know what they are talking about...or they all get big time commision from Panasonic to talk good about their plasmas.
Because I've got to say, I'm in the same boat you were in with considering and LCD purchase but based on the information I've recieved here, I'm also second guessing that choice and looking at a damn Panasonic plasma.
Damn these guys are good at their jobs huh?

 Most of us who recommend plasma own LCDs too. My kids get the LCD . I have a Panny plasma and an LG plasma. There is no comparison, the Panny blows the LG away. The reason so many of us go with Pannys is mainly because of build quality. I looked at some Samsungs and they looked great but the build quality is suspect. After watching a plasma for so long I can't go back to LCD. We just try to pass on some of our experience with different brands and technologies so you don't have to go though multiple purchases like most of us have. :D
katf1sh 11-01-2009, 11:10 PM i had no fear..if the PQ was bad i was taking it back to BB on day #29 for a different tv...if you are going to be watching the tv in a semi dim lit room i suggest a plasma for sure! honestly when you get it home and set-up it is a very nice picture..even the salesman at BB said a plasma can't be beat for black levels and PQ for BD and sports...i have 0 regrets i went with a plasma panasonic. in the end i think these guys are just like us..they want the most for there money and the best pq..and some of them own both technolgies so it is easy for them to judge what pic looks best.
Glad you like it. I did it the hard way. Bought an LCD and had to return it. A Lot happier with my plasma and I was a long time anti-plasma guy.

Boy isn't that right, just look at my signature! If I can open someone's mind and give them all the information to make an informed decision, then I have at least done one better than a Best Buy salesmen who think they know what their talking about because most do not! Panasonic doesn't need help selling their plasmas, they are having to keep up with demand now the Pioneer dropped out of the plasma business! If you ask me I think Panasonic will have problems putting out enough product for everyone, I bet a lot of Pioneer fans will go over to Panasonic to get the plasmas!

lol! That crossed my mind. Most stores I go to and compare don't have G10s or V10s out for display =\. Mostly LCDS

Economics 101! When a seller is pushing an item, it usually means a higher profit margin.

This is a BB guy here who usually knows what he's talking about. I'll recommend plasma just about every time in TVs 42" and larger.
Also, I found it ironic that a TV repair person recommended LG as a choice. Then again, I guess the repair person must need to stay in business.

Mytime's post is QFT (Quoted for Truth)
I owned a DLP and then bought a 32" LCD for my bedroom and then bought a 47" 1080p LCD for my bedroom when my son's TV broke and then 6 months later got a great deal (back then for $900.00 off, but now much more than the current replacement :crying:) on a 50" Panasonic plasma to replace the DLP that went to the kids TV/Game room we were setting up.
SO I currently own most of the techs out there and I just want to help people like I was helped years ago when first learning about all this. After seeing the poor viewing angles and poor black levels on my 32" LCD, I decided when I bought the 47" 1080p LCD I was going to make sure the next LCD didn't have those issues. What I found in those ultra bright stores is that such bright lights and the required very bright torch mode settings on the TVs hides the issues until you get them home and turn them down for home lighting so you do not hurt your eyes.
The difference is pretty dramatic and this is why I went with plasma for my last HDTV last year. I avoid watching the other displays whenever possible now, and we only want to help others to get the best solution for them which is WHY we have that sticky asking those questions about distance, room lighting, & uses expected.
Some LCD "freaks" (as they call us plasmas freaks) come and complain that we recommend plasmas to people asking about LCDs, but then never make suggestions and just attack plasma suggestions when it is to provide correct info so those people can make an INFORMED decision instead of all the myths out there and looking at only how they look in ultra bright showrooms.
It would be nice to get commissions but that would be against the rules HERE (http://www.highdefforum.com/rules.html) anyway so that is NOT happening. We take the time to help others as we were helped when we started out in this hobby and like to "give back" for that help and continue the tradition of helping others as our only reward. :D

You know more than any other BB salesman I have seen and likely you learned that additional knowledge you have in forums and not so much from the store training that most BB salesmen are limited to. KUDOS to you because you want to help your customers and took the time to learn about the products you are selling more than most.
I scratched my head on that repair guy recommending LG, but he likely wanted another repair customer. :D

he lost his job and the business closed it's doors after 20 plus years last friday.

That and they just want to move inventory. I guess Panasonic doesn't need as much help moving product as the other companies.

I am sorry to hear that. It is sad whenever something like this happens.
