OK, i am buying a new tv and my budget is limited. I have been looking at Sanyo 50" 720p 60Hz HDTV, DP50749 and Philips 42" 1080P 60Hz LCD HDTV, 42PFL3704D/F7. What i am wondering is should i get the smaler screen with 1080p or the larger screen with 720p. the spot the tv is in is about 10-15 feet from viewing area. The tv will be used for xbox/ps3/blu-ray/dvd/and some tv shows.
Thank you in advance for any info

I understand you budget is limited but Sanyo and Phillips are pretty much bottom of the barrel as far as quality and performance goes (especially Sanyo). What is your budget exactly? At 10-15 ft. away, 50'' would be they way to go, just not sure the Sanyo would be the safe bet. Just my :2cents..
Since you are interested in plasma how about the Panasonic TC-P50X1. It is onsale at BB for $899 and probably only $100 or more than the Sanyo. Much highr reliability factor and overall PQ. A Samsung plasma like the PN50B430P2D would also be a much better choice IMO.

Your thinking is reversed you should be thinking larger for a 1080p set and smaller for 720/1080i set.
I bought the prior year Sanyo DP747 and it was returned within a week because it had poor black levels (as bad or worse than most LCDs at the time), and it did a horrible job scaling SD channels as well, so do not waste your time on that model. Look at any of the Panasonic or even the Samsung 720p plasma displays as a MUCH better choice.
Hope this helps & welcome to the forum! :hithere:

That is only if his budget allows him to get the proper screen size for his viewing distance. So if his budget can increase to getting a 58" 1080p then he should, but if he has to "settle" for a 42" 1080p model from 15' away he will not even get the benefit of that higher resolution he could not see it from 15' away so a 50" 720p would be a better choice.
