[Help] trying to convert H264 to avi

ok, here's the thing... I have a Kodak HD Zx1 camcorder...
the video files are MOV/quicktime. To edit them i need to convert them to either WMV or AVI.
I've been converting them to WMV but with a much lower resolution. When i tried to convert to AVI with the same resolution(1280x720) they looked a little choppy.... even when i watched them on youtube(on non HD mode) after having uploaded them.
I'd like to know what the problem is. Is it the video bitrate? i've been setting it @ 8000(mbps) should i go lower or higher?
Also, should i alter the frame rate, which is set a 30. I can't go any higher, only lower as my video converter doesn't allow for more.

How much ram do you have on your computer? You can also try another video converter. I use this, I bought the professional one, but you can use the free version too.

that's the one i've been using.
it only has 30 FPS tops...
i'm trying to convert 60fps 720p video.
