Bethesda? Valve? Is there something going on between you two? Because we read this editorial by Eurogamer, and well, just look:
“However, it’s also worth watching closely what happens to Steam in the coming months. Unconfirmed industry scuttlebutt suggests that Zenimax – the parent company of Bethesda, which made headlines back in June when it acquired legendary PC studio id Software – is still on the acquisition trail, and has been making eyes at Half-Life creators Valve across the bar,” said the article.
If true, it’s certainly out of left field, but then, so was Zenimax’s annexation of id Software. Guess we’ll see what’s up in the coming months.

For now, though, speculate away!

It seems if this is true that Zenimax is trying to compete with EA and Activision with all of its new and perhaps soon to be acquisitions...

As far as this being a good or bad thing, I would have to say its good, they had a good showing when acquiring ID software by allowing them to continue doing what they were doing and not gutting the company.

ZeniMax has a lot of big money backers.

Jerry Bruckheimer
Cal Ripken Jr.
Robert A. Altman
Harry E. Sloan (MGM)
Robert S. Trump

So, it's not exactly Bethesda interested in buying Valve, but rather a large shell company.

I know that, I was quoting the articles headline.

To many people Bethesda and Zenimax are interchangeable. Personally, I don't know why they even keep the Zenimax name. It's not like EA and Activision have corporate names above them...

Anyways onto the topic at hand...

I don't have anything against Bethesda, in fact I love their games, but LEAVE MY VALVE ALONE DAMNIT! Valve is doing great as it stands and I don't want some other company coming in and mucking it up. An indie Valve is a happy Valve.

Has Valve done anything much for us lately? I don't seem to recall anything significant on the horizon and I got bored with Half Life 2 Orange Box fairly quickly.

Either way, I am always very weary of these large companies buying up the smaller ones because I am usually against a few companies having too much market power. Look at what has happened to EA. I am getting so tired of seeing them release another piece of crap game in the Need for Series, one after another.

Valve consistently makes my top games of the year. Last year was Left 4 Dead, this year is Left 4 Dead 2...

Plus, like kam said, they own Steam... 90% of my PC purchases come from Steam now. :D

It doesn't sound so much like they're going after EA and Activision. More they're gung ho buying into PC Gaming (the Digital Distribution side being really appealing?) looking at iD and Valve (which would include steam?).
