I'm looking for a device with a usb port that will:

Plug in a USB hard drive and

1. [requirement] Play AVCHD (from a Canon camcorder). Selecting the individual .mts file to play is acceptable.

2. [requirement] If a directory contains the VIDEO_TS directory, play this as a normal dvd showing the dvd menu. Normal .VOB mpeg-2 files.

3. [optional] As a big bonus, if the directory contains the Blu-ray file structure, play as a blu-ray disc beginning with the menu.

I've found devices that play individual .mts files fine and will play an individual .VOB file, but have not found a device that will play the DVD-Video menu. (have tested the PS3, read about Western Digital HD TV Media Player)

Any known devices that will do this?

Regards,
James

Send Oppo Digital an email, my guess is that the BDP-83 will do 1 and 2. If you receive yes as an answer, Oppo has a great return policy if the answer should have been no.

I couldn't tell if this upcoming player from Patriot Memory will. I didn't see AVCHD on the list but AVCHD is MPEG-4 so it might.

The Patriot box looks promising. It does mention AVC as supported. What I couldn't find is whether it would play the DVD menu. I've emailed Patriot and will post the result.

Video - [MPEG-1] MPG/MPEG/DAT, [MPEG-2] MPG/MPEG/VOB/ISO/TS/TP/M2TS, [MPEG-4] MP4/AVI/MOV, WMV9, FLA, [H.264/AVC] MKV/TS/AVI/MOV/M2TS, [DviX 3/4/5/6, Xvid] AVI/MKV, [Real Video 8/9/10] RM/RMVB

Reply from Patriot is not very good english, so it's not a clear cut answer, but here it is (on the PCMPB025 device):

Thank you for your interest in our products. Yes you can play VIDEO_TS, you can rip the entire DVD (ISO) file and I will play within the Box Office. Now you .mts avchd file might play on the Box Office as it does support avchd but a lot of camcorders takes raw files so you might need to convert the file as it might not read it.
