I installed a 1.5TB external drive via USB on the DVR. The DVR was ‘bad’ so DTV came out and replaced it. None of the movies that the previous DVR had recorded (about 800mb) were recognized.

It is the DTV HD – DVR Model HR22-100.

Any ideas?

The external drive is formatted for one, and only one, DVR. Once connected to another DVR, it has to be reformatted in order for that DVR to see/use the external drive. Which of course will erase the content on the external drive.

Also, the USB ports on the Directv HDDVR's are disabled. You have to connect the external drive via esata.
