Hi I have just switched my Father over to Dish and he now has a VIP722 Rec and I just hooked him up for HiDef for first time, it is a new tv about 6 months old and is a Sanyo 720p tv. The first problem he is having is that at night he gets what he calls "the fun house look" meaning that his picture is distorted like with long legs and noses like in front of the mirrors at a house of mirrors. It seems like it is mainly on prem. channels like hbo or showtime.

My question is, has anybody ever seen this problem before? and do you think its the 722 rec? He was having trouble early on with it losing signal also. I am going to call dish and get him a new rec but was wondering what you all thought about it.

Thanks,

Jim

hi again, I do have it hooked up with an HDMI cable and have tried to move it from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2.

Thanks,

Jim

Have you tried to change the Format (the * in the left corner of the remote) to make sure it's set to "Normal" for all HD content (you will see this on your display banner when you press cancel and it's under the banner on the left)? Also, make sure you go into the HDTV settings and check that "1080i" is selected. I've seen many cases where the installer did not change these and the customer never saw true HD. Hope it helps.

Make sure the receiver is set up for 16X9 TV and set to 720p.

Is sounds like the receiver is sending a SD "postage stamp" sized picture that the display is stretching to full height but not stretching to full width.
