thought i would start a thread for this game. Im picking it up after work tomorrow. I was a big fan of Mass Effect and Fallout and this game seems to mesh the two together very well. should be a very fun RPG/FPS with a full on 4 player Co-Op bounce in and out playstyle. whos gettin it :yippee:

be sure to post your thoughts about it here. I've been pondering getting it.

i will provided a brief review of it tomorrow night after i give it some playtime. This will be the frist game i have purchased since I got Tiger Woods 10 back in June

There was already a thread for this somewhere. Reviews have said it's a bit of a grind fest, which puts me off. But Really want to hear what you have to say about it as I was really looking forward to the co-op this offers and if it's a bit like Phantasy Star Online... I was able to grind for England on that!

I prob get it. The game has lots of guns, but how long does it take to complete? If only TRU buy 2 get 1 free deal was this week.

SAL I hate to burst your bubble but this isnt an RPG where you have a lot of interactions with NPC's like a dialog tree or anything. The devs stated they hate that and this is more of a Diablo meets FPS and you gain xp sort of RPG type game.

Dont get me wrong I am picking this bad boy up tomorrow as well, just dont think its a true RPG with quests and dialog. This is a hardcore shoot'em up where you try and level your guy by killing A LOT of people!!!!!

yeah i know. Its more like a super customized FPS with an open world exploration hunter gatherer grind style. Im totally cool with that becasue it has a jump in and jump out co-op option with out any game play disruption. Once i get the hang of things i will jump in your game if your on :). just dont be a loot whore :p

it seems the sniper gets a pet bird that attacks from the air. pretty cool stuff. "Bloodwing

That sounds pretty bad ass, i dont know what I will be playing as yet, the brawler looks pretty cool but if its only melee than I dont know..

I'm grabbing it, I love the idea and look of it so far.

Yes it will be a grind and loot fest. People looking for realistic shooters where headshots kill in one shot might be disappointed in this title. Personally I like pumping lots of lead into thing before they die :lol:

Steam has 4 packs of Borderlands for what breaks down to $33/person.

If anyone wants to throw in we can get a good deal. It even has a preloading option for true "Minute 1" playability.

Love the graphics but I don't think the gameplay is there for me.

The saying about the Xbox 360 having half the play double the price or something is mostly true and I agree with it but borderlands doesn't seem to be that way. They already said the DLC that is planned with cost $9.99 on PC which in most cases it wont cost a PC user anything. 800 MS points I believe.

The game looks great and I would love to have it on PC, but I can't see my self paying for it. Instead I am getting l4d2 .. afterall, I'm still playing l4d1 after a year. 4 packed l4d2

First reports have the 360 version at 720p and PS3 at 640p.

Hopefully Gearbox can make it invisible in motion.

I think anybody who already plays somewhat modern games on PC's will be able to run this pretty well. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am.

I took that view initially... but if games are $10-$20 different in price. If you bought 10 games in a year, that'd give you an additional $100-$200 per year towards your hardware (i.e. getting a new GPU to keep the thing up to date) PC specs also don't seem to be on the rollercoaster ride whereby each new big release demands an upgrade anymore either which is good.

In the UK PC games are £25-30 versus £40-50 for console games. I was crunching the maths of what I've bought in the past 2 years finding that I could easily have shelled out for a "mid-high spec" gaming PC just in the difference in software price, let alone the initial cost of entry for the console.

But right now I can't afford a new PC :lol: so I stick to PSWii60.

A PC to run boarder lands or something with generic settings like an Xbox or PS3 would run you about $400 if you knew what you were getting. You also have to take into account of the life time of a game. Most PC games I play are dead on the console now. Unreal Championship for Xbox (UT2003/4 pretty much) is dead, but I can still play it on the PC :). When a console upgrades to the next model, all games on the older console get left behind and no one plays them anymore. Then that online service will get cut off in favor of the new generation. PCs also have custom content that keep those games up to date if the SDK is released. Most Updates are free and I think this goes for the PS3 as well though.

A PC only needs a X1900 ATI or a 7800GTX Nvidia as that is the equivalent for the 360. Get maybe a dual core and 2gigs of memory and your good to go.

As said above, games cost more on a console too and with Steam, there are sales all the time that you just wont find at a retail store.

What people fail to do is say how they think gaming on a PC is expensive when its really not, its just they focus on the hard core guys who have top of the line PCs. Not everyone has those kinds of PCs and they are not required to run all games. Hell, I had a 6800GT for 5 years and it ran Crysis with 1.5gigs of ram, P4 Intel, and a 3.8Ghz single core processor. That PC was the shiz back when UT04 was released, but hell, that baby is still kick'n strong! It even ran L4D1 for a long time. of course I didn't have all the detail I would of liked lol. A 7800 would of done that for me :) but I'm cheap =P

This is a really fun game, I am rolling as a Berserker (level 16 right now) and my friend is the assault class. The shooting is good and well balanced, weapons are awesome and a lot of fun to find and use, there are just soo many damn variations!! I swear I cant keep a gun for more than 1-2 missions as there is always something new to be found..

The story is not this games strength but soo far im doing a ton of side missions and havent even gotten past the first main hub of the game.. Sooo I will reserve my judgement till I can get some more playing time.. I have to say that this is $60 well spent, if you have friends playing this, its even better. Hell I was rolling with 3 random people and it was a lot of fun....

Got it, gonna fire it up later on tonight with a buddy or two or three and shoot stuff up :D

Between Halo ODST and MW2, I think a LOT of games will get ignored on the 360 this winter. ODST might be part of the reason Madden 10 sales were so close.

Best game advert/trailer thingie EVER!

Damn i had alot of fun with this game last night. the controls are very very good. great game pacing, great graphics, great score/sound effects, great weapon variations, great co-op experiance, and finally great overall game. I honestly wasnt expecting this game to be as good as it actually is.

I had a hard time going to bed last night becasue i just couldnt stop playing this game.

I havent progressed enough to get in vehicals yet but as far as the ground game mechanics and overall fun factor this game is well worth its 60.00 price tag and any fan of FPS shouldnt pass up on this game even though COD MW2 is coming out in 3 weeks that gives you plenty of time to put some time into this game and enjoy it with 3 other friends.

Mase, Im not really having any problem at all with the story, it seems to be pretty straight forward and you get to interact with NPC charaters instead of some stupid mission given terminal. overall i think the story line has been very entertaining.

Kam, what the hell are you talking about with the load screens? are you just upset that its not total open world like Fallout?

the only negative thing i have to say about this game is the lack of a save option. everything is autosaved which means you dont have control over the files you want to play from and im not sure if you can create multipule accounts to play from as they may just overwrite each other.

I love the Berserker, I have him at level 22 and while the other classes arent bad it just works for me.. My buddy is a support Assault guy and so far we have only had to restart once as we just work really well off of eachother. I played my Sniper (hunter) class with another assault guy earlier and it did not go very well...

PoP was a fun game and Cell shading is anything but gay.. Borderlands is nothing like Too Human, not that Too Human was bad because I liked it a lot and want my damn sequel :banghead:

I dont think we are playing the same game, because honestly, most games are like that in terms of enemies. Same guy slightly different gun maybe with more armour.. Bingo bango, theres 85% of the shooters out there..

I'm playing Bionic Commando now, while it certainly has some big setbacks, figured it was worth $15.00.

Aye I've seen that for £10 in the UK now brand new, which is about the price I'm prepared to pay for it :lol:

Maybe I'll get that as this month's game.

3. I'm on some serious cough meds right now, so my any post I make in the next 48hrs should be pretty much ignored.

I'm actually digging this game, despite some little niggling things I don't like about it. Controls are pretty tight, there is a good amount of enemy variation so far even if it's just the same guy with different guns/level, the graphic style is novel and pretty well done.

Things I don't like: No being able to put medpacks or other items in the quick use tab, not being able to custom define the controls, and there is a bit of texture pop in, most noticeable when you first load a level.

Overall, based on the short couple of hours I've put into it I'd say it's a pretty solid game.

Yeah, it's true it's kinda hard to find a copy out here in San Diego. I grabbed the last copy the closest store to me had.

It is pretty addicting, I played it for a few hours yesterday and had a lot of fun. I haven't found any orange/golden weapons yet either, but some pretty cool purple ones (like an explosive assault rifle)

Ok soo I love this game, I played for 8 straight hours via system link at my buddies house and it was awesome.. I only stopped because it was 4am, this has been one of the best co-op experiences I have ever had...

Its Fallout lite with co-op!!!!!!!

Anyways my guy is a level 33 Centurian/Titan, I have found 2 Eridian(sp) weapons so far, both are pretty bad ass.. One thing I have not found yet is any Legendary (orange) weapons, I have plenty of epic (purple) ones.. Anyways maybe that will be for the second playthrough..

Level 22FOR me and i agree Mase this weekend was the first night i could sit down and play with no reason to stop and i didnt :). i ended up playing till about 4:00 am also. I play as the hunter with +3 to loot artifact attached. not sure if you guys are playing with a hunter or not but this class in co-op does increase the loot ranks. i havent got any organge yet either but we got alot of purple items last night. it was happening so often we couldnt beleive it.

right now im not even thinking about COD6 and cant wait to reach level 50 so i can start playing this all over with the Bazerker. this game is AWESOME !!!

I just beat the game and I want some more, I beat it at just under level 37 and plan on getting to level 50.. I experienced only one glitch and it was a secret achievement not unlocking, 12 days of Pandora..

I am going to fix that with my other level 12 character, I just need a corrosive weapon and to kill two things... Anyways aside from that minor inconvienence this game is a solid 9/10.. Way to go GearBox!!!!!

My playthrough was just over 30 hours, but my friend and I did every single quest/mission that was available..

We didnt loot as much as we could have, as not all places in each location contain a quest so we probably missed out on some good epic gear.. I cant wait till I find me some legendary loot, I have not seen a single one yet :(

I might pick this up today with the Best Buy Deal.

Well I bought it on the PC and then spent 3 hours opening ports and figuring bullshit out. So I'm a bit unhappy with my purchase. BUT once you get through all the bullshit there's an entertaining game inside.

Up until 2am this morning. Lvl 14 Hunter.

Different than what I am use to. But in a good way and very fun. I started off the bat with co-op. Don't think I would get the same fun factor out of the game in single player.

They gimped the co-op at launch (PS3 version) but since have patched it and from what I hear things have been solid since.. It was a mistake on their part for sure, but its good now...

Just bought it from BB. The games area listed it as out of stock but they did have it. Anyone up for a game tonite? I also got operation flashpoint and forza 3. Maybe we can get a coop game of OP too.

Dunno, other than the launch co-op screw up (which is fixed) and a couple little glitches with pop-up menus I don't see a difference... other than the ps3 loading textures faster.

got my first Gold weapon last night. WOOHOO !!!

I also bought a bad ass shotgun that does 355 damage and instead of it shooting shotgun shells it shoot Missiles . i bought it as a deal of the day in New Haven....


also me and my bud tested some of the guns and we found out that the X means how many additional bullets come out of the gun with one shot. so if it says 85 X 11 that means each bullet does 85 damage and when you pull the trigger 11 bullets will shoot at once. this is very common on the shotguns but you will come across this on sniper rifles and other weapons. you can see this when you shot these guns at a wall and see the bullets hitting the wall all at one time. some weapons do different patterns also.

The console versions support local lan and split screen (with a few little oddities like menu's having to scroll due to not quite fitting on screen) I see no reason why the PC version would not support LAN play, but I don't know for a fact if it does or not.

Pc Version has higher resolution and is fine. Once you perforate your router into swiss cheese and turn off any and all firewall protection you find yourself having.

Also you need to hack about 4 .ini files in order to make everything work the way it ought to out of the box. FOV hack, VSYNC hack, mouse smoothing hack, 50 inventory slot hack (okay cheat), etc.

Honestly though I played with 3 friends last night from levels 1-15 and had a blast. Definitely not a fun solo game but when played in a group it's great.

Takes more juice than it should on PC imo.

I'll agree there, I was under the impression that take 2 was designing it for PC and porting it to 360 and PS3 clearly the opposite was true. I'm hoping they put out a patch or two quick, but I don't think they dedicated a lot of money or time to the PC version it seems like an addon idea. Still I'm glad I got it, in fact I'm gonna go play with with some friends now.

With a game like Borderlands, you'll wanna go were your friends are at no doubt.

Ah, that's good. I could imagine the havoc and complaining that only being able to join people on your friends list would cause (on either system)

This is how I decide my purchases to be honest:

Xbox360: Pros - most games have better graphics, most, but even at that it is marginal.
Cons - I don't have XBL Gold (I refuse to pay for it, haha I bum my brother's or cousin's account, look me up and see the last time I logged on my actual user haha it's been years.) I prefer the Dualshock, probably due to almost a decade of using it.

PS3: Pros - free online, if the game needs it even so I don't use it much haha. Cons - graphics tend to be worse

PC: Pros - everything. Cons - tend to need to hack/patch shit to make it work to my exact expectations (but at least I get that option even if its a headache.)

This game seems more like a PC buy if it does in fact support local LAN. We each get our own screen, our own space, and no lag/frame drops/loading issues often associated with split-screen gaming.

I'm checking it out on Steam tonight might pick it up.

I think it will make the top 20 sales list for oct (since it was released late oct). BB’s buy 2 get 1 free sale and strong word of mouth should result in good sales. It already has a loyal following on 360 forums. I’d like to see this type of game applied to other genres, e.g. traditional RPG (casters, mages, tanks), scifi, etc.

yeah. thats why i think taking the play mechanics from Shadowrun like making your skin smoke, transporting thru walls, and using other types of magic while keeping the main focus on shooting in a FPS with the co-op storyline and item hunting of Borderlands Singleplayer would be AWESOME !!!

they dropped the price in the States about 1 to 2 months after its release to 39.99. there was alot ot heated talk from the lead game developer for Shadowrun about it being multiplayer only and still being worth its 60.00 price tag and its overall rating from game reviewers. He had some really good points and was teh first lead developer that i can recall coming out and pretty much challenging the reviewers and defending his development team over the crappy reviewes that it received.

What points did he make? I played the demo. It seemed OK but not worth $60. I just don’t see spending that much for a multiplayer only, 16 player game, no vehicles, limited online modes, etc… They certainly hyped SR as a franchise game, but it flopped. It does have a loyal following who thinks highly of it tho.

in short he said that there are singeplayer games out there that have no multiplayer attachement and only about 10 hours of gameplay that sell for 60.00 and when reviewing them there was no negative reviews on there lack of multiplayer attached to the final product. with SR you get only Multiplayer with over 100+ hours of gameplay because its online all the time so becasue of the lack of singeplayer mode he was saying they should not have scored the game so low. This was the #1 issue game reviews had with the game. the price tag and lack of any Singleplayer. the only issue i had with the game is not enough maps for a online only game and no DLC support.

Hell yeah. I got it for PC for $30 bucks and that felt like a total waste.

just played borderlands for WAYYY too long but we had a full group of 4 kicking ass, one of each class. Berserker is by far my favorite. Incendiary punches till I get KO'd and then ressing at nearly full health on a second wind in tank spec rules. My team was constantly expecting me to die so I'd come back with more health than when I started. LOVE IT. :D

beat the game over the weekend. ending was a big let down BUT ! the 2nd playthrough is so much better than the first one. Its much more challenging and should have been like this on the first playthrough.

I did one better last night found a shield that gives +60% health. Well over 1000 hitpoints now with quick recharge. And I put 5 points into beserker so my rage lasts like FOREVER. I play with friends a couple hours a night. And go back solo to complete trivial side quests we missed. not sure how far in we are, we just dealt with krom and returned the stone. Level 29 or 30.

I just put Demon's Soul into my queue and my WoW guild is starting to flourish. I think Borderlands will have to wait for a Steam super sale.
